My compact disc spoilt after scanning the computer with an antivirus,it doesn't use to appear at my computer windows.its a hp dv2000.please i need your assistance urgently.thank you

Take your computer to a qualified technician.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

Does it not acknowledge dvd disc only or cd or dvd both. If it doesn't read the dvd disc, or able to play dvd disc, but able to exlpore regular cd's, then you have a codec error, and you need to download a dvd codec like powerdvd for it for your system to play dvd disc. Check to see if your dvd-rom drive appears in the "my computer" window, if it is there, but wouldn't be able to play anything, then it could be a driver issue. so make sure in the hardware , the drivers is installed and working properly. If it is working properly and driver is installed, then you got a bad drive, the optical laser lenses isnt reading or the spindle ain't working anymore if you don't hear disc being loaded when inserting the disc.

My dvd drive does not appear anywhere. Its not in device manager, the registry thing don't work and microsoft is no help at all. Please help.


Sorry. Not enough information.
The DVD drive must be recognized in Boot up before you can use it. Check your owner's manual or have a knowledgeable friend help.
Chances are, a new DVD drive will be needed. They are very easy to change on a desktop computer.
I need:
Your make and model for the computer
Is it a laptop?
Does the DVD drive door open?
What operating system? Xp, Vista or Windows 7
Has the DVD ever worked?
Did you install a program and the drive disappeared?
Do you use bit torrent or limewire?
Do you have a driver disc for the DVD Drive or computer?

Most likely there is some DRM scheme that your DVD drive does not support fully. Try looking for a firmware update for your DVD drive on your computer and see if that fixes the problem.

DVD drives on the whole don't need the driver to work. Does the drive appear in Windows? If it does, try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Does it 'see' discs? If not, it probably needs replacing.

Out of scan range resolution>xga problem


Reboot the computer to the BIOS screen. Go to the last page or the "SAVE" page and there should be a "set system settings to default" somewhere around the BIOS. Once that is choosen, reboot in safe mode and go to your display settings. safe mode automatically sets the resolution at a setting that is safe to use, try bumping the settings up here to see if it holds. I would then go to your video card manufacturers support site and update the drivers for the graphics adapter.

These are the first few steps you should take.
First, go to the HP website and make sure you have the latest Vista compatible drivers for the device.
Update the drivers and see how you go.
Failing that uninstall the device from the device manager and get rid of the drivers while you are at it.
Disconnect the device then reboot the computer.
Shut the computer down again, re-connect the device and reboot. Allow Windows to detect the device and, if asked, give it the new drivers or if there was no update then let it install the original drivers.

If the firmware was never updated, it can cause this.
A tool like Nero infotool will show the drive firmware version or you can scan your registry for "4481" and locate an entry in <HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\DeviceClasses>
that shows the drive model and a numeric fw version.

Start Menu, icons disappears except wallpaper & my DVD drive didn't work.


Trojan Horse virus still exist in partition files and you should format entire HDD with Disk-Manager-2000 or some thing like that. After format, reinstall Win XP.
I been faced such problem few months back and that was effected solution.
