Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

Small black squarowing up on all my pictures on Nikon D80

Hi

I've had my camera for under a year and yesterday for the first time all the pictures I took (in automatic mode) had a small black sqaure in the picture.

Also all the pictures look under and overexposed and blurry even though it is set to automatic mode.

Do you know what may be causing this. I have also pressed the two button reset but it is still the same.

Thanks

Have you checked that the exposure compensation isn't set to anything other than zero?

Everything on control panel is flashing. Can't operate camera.

Hi Shirley,

It sounds like your camera's CPU is stuck in a loop. First, I'd remove and transfer any pictures on the SD card in a card reader connected to your computer, followed by formatting the card. Leave the SD card out of the D80. Set the power switch on the D80 to "off" and install a freshly charged battery. If it is still flashing, a "Full Reset" may help.

Nikon recommends that a full reset be done only under direction of Nikon staff. The procedure is outlined along with graphics on this page under "Full reset". I suggest calling Nikon support to see if they think this procedure (or maybe another that they have) will solve the problem.

Lcd doesnt work for picture taking

It's not supposed to. The D80 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, allowing you to frame the picture through the viewfinder. The LiveView capability was introduced with later cameras such as the D90 and D300. On the D80 the display is used for settings, menus, and reviewing pictures after they've been taken.

Hi nrkelkar, In the D80 manual page 36 it speaks about the buffer. What you see as an error message is r with a number. The number is how many shots the buffer at that moment can handle. It is not an error message.

For the best under $1000, that would be the D90.

The 18-105VR will work on the D70s.

I was told that i need to replace my shutter on my D80. and it is only 2 years old. is that a normal thing?

A Nikon D80 shutter is rated to fire 100,000 times. Have you taken that many pictures in 2 years? If so, that means you've shot about 137 pictures a day for 2 years!

Nikon D80 Dark Viewfinder and Slow Shutter Speed

At first it sounds like a faulty aperture blade that is stuck after your first press. However you mentioned that this happened in other lenses as well. Seems to me that there is a problem with your camera (e.g. mirror lockup problem or something else). Pls have it looked at by Nikon
