Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

2 Answers

I don't even know!

My TI-84 Plus was working fine until one night I was doing some homework. I turned it on and it showed up RAM Cleared. Along with that, not all of the buttons would work, and I would have to hold down the button for about a minute before it would register. And the calc would never shut off! It was on for 3 hours before I finally took the batteries out. I fixed that problem, it doesn't do that anymore, but now I press a button, any button, and it shuts off! The batteries are good, I've tested them, I don't know what to do!

The same thing happened to me just this week! - keys take a super long time to respond, wouldn't shut off (even with "2nd OFF"), "RAM cleared" message (but when I put in new batteries). I haven't gotten to the "press any button, it turns off" phase.
So, as per spongeboob, is it dead, do you think?

What i think is that your calculator has water damage. It is not dead. There still is hope. The slow response is due may be due to a short in your I/O port. Blow really hard in there that might stop the slow response. Other than that let it sit without the batteries to dry. Then put the batteries back in and if that doesn't work its probably what spongeboob said and your going to need to ditch it.

Looks like its finally died,
the problem is probably due to moisture condensing on the processor which in turn moved some conducting material beteen an input, so sounds terminal to me, mine is nearly 20 years old and still going however !

I jus bought a TI-84. when i turned it on it said RAM cleared. now there's a blinker on the screen. every time i press a button, nothing happens. whats wrong with this brad new calculator

You need to re-install or, update the Ti 84 Plus OS. Since you just bought the calculator it is unusual that it is already to that point of clearing the RAM. You can connect a computer and your Ti 84 calculator together once you downloaded and, installed Ti Connect software on the computer. That way you can use the Ti OS Downloader that comes with Ti Connect software to install the newest Ti 84 Plus OS. Or, if you have a friend that has a Ti 84 Plus or, Ti 84 Plus Silver Edition you can connect the two calculators together through the IO link ports and, they can send you a copy of their OS while you receive it on your Ti 84.

Get this problem fixed as quick as you can. You do not want your OS to fail any more than what it already has. If you can not find another calculator to connect too, then you can connect through your computer. You may have a long road ahead of you getting the Ti Connect software and, drivers working right. Just remember to come back to your posting here and, post a comment of what ever is failing. This will notify me right away and, I'll walk you though it if necessary.

RAM CLEARED?

Hello,
The most likely reason is that the backup battery is drained. Change the backup battery. When you get the Ram Cleared message, just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and start using the calculator.
Hope it helps.

When turned on, my TI-84 Plus says that the RAM is cleared. I pressed on again but you can't do anything after that.

Hello,
If it is always saying RAM Cleared when you turn it on, it may be due to a depleted backup battery. Once you change it, you will not get the message again.
Anyway, you are not supposed to press ON again when calculator is turned on. Just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and have access tho the main calculator screen.
Good luck.

TI-84 Plus Calculator will not turn on, says ram is cleared

Thats because the OS is corrupt. Follow the manual and reload the OS, try the 2.43 OS

RAM Cleared

This is kinda a weird situation. Because it's usually the other way around. Your ram will clear if your calculator is frozen. So take out all 5 batteries from the back. Even the back up battery. Then reset it again. 2nd then + then 7 then 1 Then 2. Good luck.

TI-84 plus Silver edition resets when connected to PC

I had that same problem.

the blinking black box on my calculator would stay on.
every time I turned on my calculator, it would say 'ram cleared'
if I held down a button for 2 seconds or so, it would finally respond

SOLUTION:
blow really hard into the I/O port. It fixed it for me!
