To Sam Anderson: The inside of my handset looks clean and normal. Is it time for a new phone?

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

How do you re-register your handset to the base unit? I have set the security code to 20.

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

S/C Invalid on display of my Sony SPP-A972 cordless phone. Solutions so far haven't helped.

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

The security code is set at 20. You can't enter # plus the number of the handset when it doesn't work.

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

Unpluging and disconnecting has been tried numerous times with no success.

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

Nothing offered so far has helped. S/C Invalid on my handset is still there.(Sony cordless phone SPP-A972)

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

S/C Invalid is still on my handset(Sony SPP-A972) If it helps the handset whines when I set it in the base.

  • jsquier9927 Sep 18, 2008

Nothing has worked! Sony cordless phone SPP-A972 has S/C Invalid on the screen. Handset doesn't work at all. If it helps it whines when you put the handset in the base unit.

I would recommend this manual, a previous posting gave a link to the manual for model A972, but this discussion pertains to model A973.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=SPPA973&LOC=3

I also have a model A973 with the "S/C Invalid" error. Nothing so far has worked. We bought it used for $4 yesterday. I have tried setting the security code as shown on page 41 of the manual (downloaded using the above Web address), but that section of the manual refers to the security code to access the mail boxes from a remote phone. The error on the handset is most likely referring to a different "Security Code" related to communication between the handset and the base unit--as other posts here have suggested.

What was it you didn't like about my solution it is not economical to have the phone repaired and it should be replaced. I hope you will reconsider your rating and accept and rate accordingly. If you have any questions I would love to hear them. If you need any assistance in locating a proper replacement it will be no problem. Also have you replaced the battery with a new one?
    Thanks,
    Lee

S/C INVALID.

It means the security code is invalid. The phone & base are not talking to each other. do you have the manual for the phone.... check that the number you have i believe it was 20 is the same as the base. generally to reset the security code you just place the phone into the charger.... the base not the spare charger for a couple seconds... you will see the light on the base flicker. it should work then..... this can't be accomplished by using the spare charger if in fact there is a spare.

I think its miss match case of Tx and Rx frequencies of base unit and hand set. You can change / select different channel for communication of both units to resolve this problem.
Need further help, please give more details of phone problem.

I think I have found the solution. If you look under the base you will see two little holes. In the handset under the battery there is a plastic sticker. Pop it off and you will find the same two little holes. When you look in the hole you will see small metal contacts.

I took the handset apart to see what they were. Stamped on the board it said TX & RX.

I am yet to perform this test as I have not had the time but my hypothesis is that these contacts are the key to resync the system.

I would have to rig up a pair of wires, use an external power supply to power the handset up because you can't access the connections with the battery in place & see if by joining the two together via a wire would do the trick. Now I would guess you take the RX from to base to the TX of the handset & vice versa.

The procedure for setting the security code is on page 41 of the SPP-A973's user manual. Follow them and you should be all set.

That erro means that the handset and base station are not communicating, you need to re-register the handset to the base station in order for it to work and make sure you use the proper security code....

Hope that helps.............

You may have corrosion (caused by the chemical reaction of the water) on the
keys and/or in the circuits which may have caused damage.

You'll need to check the handset (the unit you hold in your hand) for internal
damage.
A visual inspection (once inside the device) should be enough to show you where
the trouble spots are.

You have to thoroughly wipe and dry the areas. then there is retouching of
solder connections, followed by troubleshooting procedures of the handset's
portion of the DC power supply and the other circuits.
This repair is generally fairly intricate to do (moderate to difficult) and
will take you at least 2 hours + to diagnose and/or correct.

It seems the phone does not accept your
    remote ID code (security code).
1.Make sure the remote ID code (security code) is correct.
2.Make sure you entered the remote ID code (securitycode) within two seconds after you‘ve entered (#).
