Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

Do you think it could be the fan capasitor?

What other solutions do you have ? I hate to just start replacing parts to find the problem or do you feel strongly that it is the fan motor? Compressor runs. Called Dometic and was told it was fan run capacitor. Replaced-still does not run. Fan runs fine if started by hand but will not start next time-even immediately after stopping.

Ya it may be..fan capacitor is used to run to induction motor placed in a fan...it oly givin startin torque to run the motor...i think u replaced capacitor which was having low rating..better u use high rating to get intial start up soon

If even after changing the capacitor the fan does not run on its own , so it indicates the weak fan motor .but before that check whether the bearings are chocked up ,sometimes even choked bearings cause this type of problem.

for any further queries feel free to ask.
thanks

Hello That is the START capasitor, disconnect it & get and install a HARD START KIT on the run capasitor. It is a simple 2 wires that plug on the run cap and will do the job of the defective factory one.

I have a trane XR12 Heat Pump. The cooling fan on the outdoor unit does not run nor does the compressor. The fan motor heats up and hums. I am guessing that the problem is the start capacitor on the fan...

Hello Rich,NO you have a dual capasitor that runs both fan & compressor motors.Shut it down and let it cool off.You need the uf rate numbers & the volt rating of the existing cap (printed on the side)to get EXACT replacement. The wires plug in to the top termanls C, HERM &FAN.Worth fixing good luck.

The compressor fan does not spin and sometimes it spins backwards

Your capacitor is definitely the culprit here.
It should be a dual capacitor. Meaning it has 3 terminals on one capacitor. "C" "H" and "F" would be the markings for power in,"C" out to fan "F" and out to compressor "H".
It also has a mfd(microfarad) value on the capacitor as well as a VAC rating of 370 or 440 volts ac. A 440 VAC can be used in place of a 370vac.
The other specs may be something like 40/5 or 35/5 or 40/7.5 etc.
The capacitor replacement should be exact as far as the microfarad rating is concerned.( eg. 40+5).
The money requested through various sites is just that....various. These dual caps may sell around 30-50 dollars for a quality capacitor. If you wish to spend the $118 I will sell you all as many as you would like.

Compressor trie to start, but don't.

Capacitor is good place to start, once you confirm you have proper voltage getting to the unit.

Intertherm 3 ton ac unit I took the capasitor off to get a new one and forgot how to wire it it is not on the cover three wire fan and compressor three prong 55-5 capasitor help

The 55 terminal is marked "herm" it goes to the start winding of the compressor. The 5 terminal is marked "fan" it goes to a wire from the fan motor. The common terminal goes to one side of the power line...The side that is NOT going directly to the compressor.

Fan not working

some fan motors have a start capasitor, some have a run capasitor and some have both. if you take out the capasitors (normally in the junction box) take note of which wires go where and head to a refrigeration spare parts wholesalers they should be able to give you the right ones then replace them. this shouldnt cost any more than $20 if that doesnt work you will need to replace the motor.
