Question about RCA DCM425 DIGITAL CABLE MODEM (RCADCM425)

1 Answer

Is my modem a WiFi router?

I remember purchasing a WiFi router for my home about 6 years ago, and now I'm digging through boxes trying to find it. I've come across a RCA DCM 425 Digital Broadband modem box, and I'm not sure if this also helps with WiFi, or if I need to keep looking in other boxes. Can you please help?

Thank you.

Thank you "Marked". I've also just found a Qwest ActionTec which I know is a wireless router. I don't have service through Qwest any longer though. Will I still be able to connect with this ActionTec router?

    Thanks again.

This RCA DCM 425 is a cable modem only its not even a router, its just a plain cable modem that is being provided by some cable company like Cox and Comcast, try searching again for a different box there they have a brnad name of Linksys, Netgear or Dlink because those are the common manufacturer of wireless router ...

Hope that helps............

Yes, you can still use it again for a DSL internet connection like Verizon, SBC or bellsouth because that is a DSL modem....

Hp a345w desktop pc dcs server not found conflict

what OS, we can NOT GUESS your operating system.
so where are you , home or star bucks.?
what is your connection, wifi, ethernet, or others?
a desktop pc can have vast ways to get internet.

1: modem dial up (i bet not this, nobody uses this now, 99.9)
2: cable modem, sat modem, fiber modem to ISP
3: USB wifi dongle, on PC and to local router.
4: PCI card wifi. , to router.
5: ethernet wired to router or modem direct. a cable wire. CAT5/6

one can even have direct wired ethernet to the cable modem
or you might have wired to wifi router (2 ways to connect there)

NO OS stated
no connections stated.

my guess is DCS, means DHCP not found, or DNS not found.
lots of causes, but I will not attempt to answer for all 6 ways.
sorry

Tip

Multiple Computers on Same Network, Continual Internet Connection Dropout

After adding that second or third computer to your home network are you constantly fighting over who's using the internet connection? When your high schooler logs into his facebook chat, are you getting dropped off of your internet connection?
Or have you added a wifi router and is your whole network not staying connected like it did before you added your wifi?
These are common issues and we answer these questions often at FixYa.
Here is s a tip that will get you past the internet connection being dropped by someone else on your network attempting to log into the internet or help you get that wifi up and working with out all the cut outs and drop offs.

Follow this simple procedure and you'll be amazed!
1. Turn off everything. Turn off computers, routers, modem, printers... everything that's on your LAN (local area network) or home ethernet.
2. Turn on your wireless router next. With the ethernet cable connected to your wifi router to your modem and let it cycle up to running. If you aren't running wifi, do this with your main router. Make sure your modem and everything else is still off.
3. Turn on your modem (enet cable attached to wifi router or main router) and let the modem cycle up to running.

What you've done is allowed your wifi router to be established as the "MAC" Address for your modem. Modems look for a single MAC address. Once the router has this address, the router will maintain the connection with the modem and the internet, AND will assign MAC addresses to your computers, network printers, network routers etc, while still maintaining your connection to the internet.

4. Turn on all other peripherals, computers and network printers. At this point the order of power up isn't important, because your router will be assigning separate addresses to all the computers, etc on your network.

That's it! The secret's out! Just keep this handy... remember if you have power outage, you'll need to reboot in this order again... Happy Home Networking

I have a Fire HD 6 and I have no way to figure out how to get it to work with my comcast wireless? can you simpllify it for me?

Make sure your WiFi modem/router is turned on. On your Fire, go to Settings-->WiFi. Turn WiFi on. If it does not start scanning for WiFi networks automatically, tap on Scan. It should find and display the SSID of your home WiFi network. Tap on that SSID. When asked, enter the password. If you enter the correct password, you should see the message 'Obtaining IP address...' and then 'Connected'.

Yahoo mail error 999

I have seen this happen when a router stores a "CACHED" address for a website. The only solution is to power off the router (reboot wont always resolve).

Other things to check:
- Make sure the Comcast and Buffalo routers are not using the same subnet.
- Try to use an alternate DNS on the Buffalo, 8.8.8.8 is a good one (its googles DNS)

Just purchased a bluray disc dvd plahyermodel BDP3406/F7. do i need router for transfer netflix to my tv in the adjoining room?

In short "YES" you need a router.
most of these players use "wifi" to connect to your "home network" so that you can use netflix and other online features. A typical setup in a home that uses internet will consist of a computer, modem, and a router. if you use the internet just on your computer all you would need is a modem and a pc. But if you have any of the wifi gadgets like the iPod, ps3, xbox, nds, and etc etc.... or a blu-ray player that can stream netflix and such you would typically have a router.
you can find a router/modem combo but my experience hasn't been good on those. if you can keep them separate. a good router and a good modem

If your trying to get on the internet with a wireless connection.and running WINDOWS, .and I am assuming you DO have a wireless router all set up and configured to broadcast the signal (not hidden) ....first we have to determine if the problem is at the router or at the laptop AND at what point its getting stuck ... so first try this

try resetting the router (disconnect the power to it for a few minutes) next --be sure the wifi switch is enabled on the netbook---next---go to CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK CONNECTIONS--right click oin your wifi card and choose properties--highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL and choose properties and be sure "OPTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" is checked--Does the laptop "SEE" the router?
You will need your SSID to logon to the router(internet)

Reset the router to factory settings and test. Please remember that security settings may be restored too here, so you may need to encrypt the signal. You will need to log into the router's configuration page in order to achieve these. Also try changing the channel in terms of broadcasting... and test again. I hope I have helped here. Good luck.

connect it by the LAN cable and then it should come with a default IP address found on the box or the bottom of the the wifi router enter that in your address bar and you will need to type a username and password that is also found on the box of the wifi router then you can then configure it from there. good luck
