Drain the water from the filter and pump housing. With the water out of the filter, you can now shore the filter near the pool or in your near by shed or garage.

Winterizes ia filture

winterizing a filter is easy. turn pump off, remove the drain plug at bottom of filter. if its a cartridge filter, remove the cartridges and clean before reassembly. on a sand filter, put the dial valve in the 'close/winterize' position.

I'm getting a little sand in the discharge during back wash

that is usually caused by damage to the fingers (laterals) on the standpipe. most times this damage comes from improper winterization or when sand is changed by non professional

How do you know if your hayward s 200 is not running right

sand in your pool is a sign that you may have damage inside your sand filter. it is not uncommon for laterals to break during winter months. also, as the sand wears, it becomes smaller and may pass through.
remember that the filter sand is white. if you have sand in the pool that doesnt look like filter sand, you may have a problem with a broken line back to pool. keep an eye on your water level as you will lose water with this scenario

Center pipe was cracked when we took it out to replace the sand what would cause this plus there was sand under the bottom cover

Typically, the cracking of internal filter tank components is due to freezing temperatures over the Winter season. You should always COMPLETELY drain all water from your filter and store it inside during the winter.

Another reason is over chlorination of your pool water and/or adding chemicals directly to your water thru the wall skimmer.

My intex sand filter will not move water when I put the lever to filter? It will move water when I put the lever to recirc but wont move water with filter...why?

im gonna guess that you stored the filter improperly off season and now the sand charge is hard as cement inside not alowing water to get thru , left alone for a week or so it might loosen up , but the best thing is to dissasemble filter and remove all sand and ck "fingers" inside this is fastest way
i allways use RV antifreeze 30/1 to store any pumps or filters off season , RV type because its nontoxic

Pool had a lot of brown silt algae, cloudy put in correct amount of chemicals, back washed several times.pressure at 17 lbs goes to 21 in 1 hour.Tried to drain filter and I cant get the water to come out.I...

First I'm assuming we're talking about a sand filter. Back washing is the right thing if pressure increases.A 8-10psi pressure increase is the magic number where you must backwash. Be sure to run a rinse cycle too before returning to filter. If you want to clean filter you can buy chemicals that you add to your skimmer as you backwash. Follow their directions. If you do want to drain the water, open your basket cover on the pump and remove plug, this will allow air to enter the filter, so it will drain. It drains slowly. Not really necessary, except to winterize.l

My hayward sand filter is leaking out of the side seam. Can I seal it? Thank you for any help.

Most likely not This is tough plastic, and you have have water pressure in tank. Did the filter get overpressured? Did it freeze in the winter. Try Craig's list for a good used filter.

There's sand in my pool!

I have had this issue with several clients and before worrying, you might have had sand being drawn back into pool lines during winterization. this happens when you blow out lines, plug holes, but keeping it pressurized. if it keeps happening check draw fins on bottom of filter.
