The help line depends on her internet provider.

If she's on campus, she'll have to phone the internal helpdesk.

If she subscribes to Bell Sympatico,

You are a bit confused with the various components required for Internet connections.
If you have a dial-up connection with an Internet Service Provider, all you do is connect your computer's modem port to the phone line and dial the phone number of your Internet Service provider.
If you are connected to the Internet Servise Provider by ADSL and have a combined ADSL router and modem then you connect the phone line to this router/modem. If the ADSL modem is separate component then the phone line is connected to the ADSL modem and this modem is connected to the router with a LAN cable and the computer is connected to the router with another LAN cable. If the route is wireless and the computer has a wireless card then you don't need a LAN cable between the router and the computer.
If you are connected to the Internet by ADSL, to secure your Internet connection and configure your computer so it can connect to the Internet, please follow my instruction - click on this link :-

My sister bought me a acer aspire but i can not get online

I would have to agree with Siawolf. but i will add a little more. You need a Internet Service Provider, such as Bigpond or Dodo, and also a Modem for your computer to connect to the internet and a account from the Service providers. If you have one but are unsure as to why its not working, give their support line a call and give them your details and they will address you on what to do

Hope This Helps

Hello JAZZYBELINDA,

I read your post and wanted to know if you are able to access the internet if you connect the modem directly to one of your computers. I would like to make sure that we do not have a problem with the network. What errors are you seeing and what lights do you see on the modem and router? Please send your phone number via email or private message and I will review the network for you. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you.

Hello sir,

I didn't necessarily need to enable QoS when I was on 3 meg, but now that I've downgraded back to 1.5 once again due to financial strain (and since I'm not at home that much anymore), it's critical that I find a way to properly enable QoS. Why? My sister is here on the weekends, and so am I. An example of the connection stress I have to go through is when she's streaming a video from Stage6 or Veoh, I have to undergo lag whether I'm viewing a web page or watching a Youtube video. Sometimes, the lag is ridiculous...and for those who think my DSL is at fault, check out the stats:

ADSL Line State: Up
ADSL Startup Attempts: 1
ADSL Modulation: ADSL2+
ADSL Data Path: Interleave
Datapump Version: DSP 5.2.2.0, HAL 5.2.2.0
Downstream Upstream
---------- ----------
SNR Margin: 19.00 26.00 dB
Line Attenuation: 58.50 39.00 dB
Output Power: 20.97 11.83 dB
Errored Seconds: 0 0
Loss of Signal: 0 0
Loss of Frame: 0 0
CRC Errors: 0 0
Data Rate: 1493 249

(On a fast path profile too, mind you; it is not interleaved according to the 11 ms 2nd hop on a tracert)

Anyway, back on QoS, if I could just find a way to limit the bandwidth to my sisters computer or to make my connection the higher priority of the two, I would be fine with just that, because sometimes, I can't even break past 30 kb/sec with her hogging the connection. The question is, how do I go about doing it? emotionless.gif

Hmm..

Anyway...I'm really at a loss here, and I'm assuming this is the screen where I can add QoS profiles. Upon clicking add (or edit), I am transferred to this screen..

This is how I've attempted to setup a QoS profile to prioritize my connection (the inside, network IP address typed above). I'm not sure if it will work or not and I will have no idea until my sister comes over here this weekend. The point is, I just want to be ready and not have to reconfigure and reboot my modem constantly to set up QoS properly.

If anyone, and I mean ANYONE could offer me some insight on properly configuring my router to properly prioritize my connection over hers (even if it's just port 80; I don't care), I would much appreciate it.

I apologize for the rather...lengthy post.

Good Luck

Internet connection

Good afternoon, Lisa Ann,
On a system that is this old, you will have to purchase a card that will allow you to hook up to cable and install it on the motherboard. I can't tell you right off hand, but would guess that it shouldn't cost more than $35-$45 for the card.
