Question about Audiovox Televison & Video

6 Answers

I have an Audiovox D1020 DVD player that when a DVD is put in continuously tries to load the DVD without any success. The DVD is not a copy, but the original store bought version. It works on my other DVD players. I'm wondering if the reader is not recognizing the DVD.

I've tried a few DVD's that have worked in the past in that player. I'm positive that it's the player and not the dvd.

Your laser eye might be dirty or tired(out of alignment). Buy a cleaning kit, if it does not help then get someone who knows how to re-align it.

It is possible that the component assembly inside the player is not aligned thats why it is not reading the disk.

If dvd player says No Disc thing at end, it means optical lens is dirty and need to cleaned.
open top cover and see optical lens, take good quality cotton swab and clan the optical lens with care. now load disc and let it read data, hope fully it will work.

Hi,

see if the player tries to read the disc. Load a disc and listen.
Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track. Please refer to the image i have attached.

Try playing a different DVD and see if it will work, because if still didn't work the problem can be with that player already, try a DVD that has work fine with that player before..

Hope that helps........

If you already tried a different DVD and still have the same problem, the player lens may be dirty or damage , you can try first running a DVD cleaner that should clean the lens...

Did you play other DVD's on the same because it may happen somtimes that one particular player may not be able to play a dvd which is being played in other systems

If the DVD has some scratches, it is very well possible that it might get played in few players and may not get played in others. It does not mean that the reader is bad if you are able to play the other dvd's on the same.

If the player does this on any DVD then, I'm sorry to say, the screen is broken and it's cheaper to buy a new one.

Horrible Static on both headphones and van speakers when playing

Hi...

The most probable cause it broken solder connections on the headphone/ext speaker jacks.
If you know someone who can solder fine detail parts...have them try.
I dont know what a TV shop would charge but it DOES need fixing

Audiovox D1020 DVD player won't read DVD anymore

I have the same problem! The only way to fix this is to replace the motor that spins the DVD. if you take it apart and spin the DVD the movie will play. The motor is just wore out and has no torque to start the play process. I am still looking for a replacement motor for it and haven't found anyone that carries the motor required. Only Audiovox so far and they want 180 to send in and fix.

I have an AudioVox D1020 portable DVD player. Recently it has stopped ejecting DVDs, but will still play the DVD in the drive. There is a loud whirring sound when the eject button is pushed

The PCB board for the CD controls has slid out of its bracket slightly into the pathway of the CD.

Open the DVD player, there are 3 screws on back corners and one on the bottom. Use a penny in the slots where the speakers go and gently separate the back from the front, but only very slightly. Be cautious now, because there are several wiring bundles between the front and the back. Reach into the gap, at the top where the CD control buttons are, find the PCB for the CD controls and gently push it back into place. Put the front and back together, power up and see if you've cleared the pathway.

Problem with white screen

Similar experience with a D1020. A very small component on a surface mount PCB developed a cold solder joint and eventually came off altogether. If you have a small low power soldering iron and experience with very intricate soldering, you can attempt a repair. Do not imagine that a repair shop can repair for a reasonable expense.
