Question about Philips DVP620VR DVD Player/VCR
Will playback (and record) sound on VCR but no picture (only "snow"). Was working fine till the other day. DVD still OK. Any ideas? Thanks.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Just had the same problem and it is fixed for me. With NO DISC in the player go to the System Menu. Next Navigate to Preferences on the top of the screen.
You will set an option titled "Default". Select that and it seems to reset the player to default settings and fixes the sound.|

Check if the recorder is set to output in 'S-Video' or 'SuperVideo' mode, if your TV doesn't understand S-Video you'll get a grainy B&W picture. The VCR should be set to output in PAL for the UK and most of Europe.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Philips DVD Recorder
I may be a bit late but I just upgraded my firmware. I downloaded the zip file and burned it as per the instructions with Nero Burning Rom. This may help. Visit the Philips website and search for your Dvd recorder there.

Crack the top open and look inside for any foreign matter. Usually the cause is debris in the IR path that detects start and end of tape or the loading mechanisim is faulty.
