Question about Saeco VIA Veneto Espresso & Coffee Maker
I just bought a new Via Veneto online, it said it had been tested and was fully functional, but I cannot get it to prime. When I open the steam valve and turn on the coffee button, water comes out of the portafilter but nothing at all from the steam wand, not even a drip. I let it run through the full water tank a couple of times. I've read that these machines are hard to prime, but I just don't know what to do other than the same thing that doesn't work over and over. (who was it who said that one definition of insanity is repeating the same action and expecting different results?)
Yes, unfortunately the Via Veneto is a difficult machine to prime, however, I have a simple way to prime the pump if you run into this problem. Simply remove the water tank, fill a clean turkey baster with water, open the steam valve fully then mate the baster tip with the water tank flow valve on the espresso machine. Wrap a towel or paper towel around the flow valve/baster tip then inject the water (agressively, but not forcefully). It's works for me every time.
