Question about LG Electronics LRM-519 Digital Media Recorder

3 Answers

Same problem! I also have an LRM-519 which displays a dimly lit HELLO and will do nothing else. I have attempted as many fixes I have read on this site as possible. I'm no electronics person so I don't know how to replace all those "thingies". Has anyone considered banding together to bring a class action suit against LG? Obviously, with as many people having the same problems, bad publicity is something they don't want from many current customers. Just curious.

I too have the same unit with the exact same problem. A dimly lit "hello"

and nothing else. I have tried all the resets offered to me but all have failed.

I cannot find the same capicitors at three different Radio Shack stores so now what?

I have 3 of the LRM-519 and all have the same power supply issue. LG has discontinued the repair part.

This video details how to replace the capacitors. Maybe you have a friend that is comfortable with the technical bits?

Unplug the unit, hold down the play and stop buttons on the recorder, not the remote, keep holding them, plug the unit in while holding them and then push the power button...

If it starts clacking and says please wait you are on your way, it will take a few minutes...

Works sometimes. Not always.

There is a vendor on Ebay that will fix your LRM 519 and it costs 99 dollars and that includes return shipping

The video on this page by jbmcsorley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToWeEhj8Lew does indeed work. I robbed the two matching capacitors out of an old computer power supply in which the transformer had failed. The capacitors were still good. It took me less than 45 minutes including robbing the capacitors from the old power supply. It really is easy. Don't worry!

I have two lg lrm-519 dvr's both power supply's went out about 4 months apart where can i get this fixed?

I have repaired two different LRM-519 that both had the same problem. The repair was a simple replacement of two capacitors on of the power supply board of each unit. You can search the web for repair instructions, or even search youtube for a video of the repair.

If you have the same problem I had then when you turn on your recorder it will only display the Hello message on the front of the unit (perhaps very dim) and the blue light on the power button will come on. Your next step is to open the device (about 7 screws) and slide the top off, then examine the tops of the capacitors on the power supply, if the tops of one or more are bulging up then this is a good candidate for attempting this repair.

For parts I found some on ebay and searching the web. If you don't want to do the repair yourself I have also seen people offer the power supply repair on ebay.

LG LRM-519 When turns on, hello appears and that's as far as it will go. Any asst. would be great. Thanks.

Sounds like a software error while the dvd is booting up. Did you try unpluging the unit for a while and pluging it back in?

LG LRM-519 Not responding to anythiing

I had a LRM-519 that would not get past a very dimly lit "hello" on the LED screen. I called tech support and was advised to make sure no disk was in the unit and turn off the power from the unit (not the remote) and unplug it from the wall outlet. While unplugged, hold down the power button for 30 seconds then plug it back in. This didn't work the first time, but after a few tries it worked for me. My unit hadn't worked for nearly 3 months prior to this. Good luck.

2 units have died. Possible power supply problem

According to LG support, it would have cost $69 for labor plus parts to repair the unit. The main board/power board is $40.
