I have a Toshiba DVD Video Player Model SD 260. I

Hello, The problem could be dirt on the surface of the lens, you can clean this by removing the cover of the dvd player . Gently use a dry cotton bud to clean the lens because the lens is fragile. Insert the disc plate into the dvd player and press play, if it does not play try the second method. Ensure the cover of the player is open, connect the power plug to the mains socket and observe the lens if it beam a red light, Also check the ribbon cable use to connect the lens to the printed circuit board, then gently clean the lens with a dry cotton bud , insert the disc plate and press play to see if it play. If it does not play the disc, then this require a change of the lens

Mitsubishi 55 in. 1080 series

If I remember correctly, this TV has a couple of constraints that will cramp your style:

1. It supports 480i, 480p and 1080i. NO 720P
2. It has component video inputs, but NO HDMI. (as you stated)

There is no easy solution here, because I've never found an upconverting DVD player that would upconvert anything past 480p using the analog component outputs...

So..

Perhaps you can find an Upconverting BLU-RAY disk player that may allow older DVDs to be upconverted to 1080i via the component outputs.

MOST Blu-Ray players allow 1080i output via the analog connections on Blu-Ray discs, so perhaps there is your solution.

A better pic

Yes there is. You can buy an HD Disc player. There is two types out there, HD and Bluray. I would recommend Bluray because it seems like HD DVDs are falling off. So buy a Bluray player and Bluray discs instead of traditional DVDs, traditional DVDs will not put out in HD. Also, if you have cable, get an HD receiver and you can pick up the special HD channels. Good luck. If you need anymore help, let me know.

My dvd player is saying no disc when there is one in there.

Mostly this happens when optical lens couldn't read data on disc. There are two possible reasons, one is cd itself is dirty and 2nd is optical lens is dusty. Take off top cover of your dvd player and clean optical lens with good quality cotton swab. Hope problem will resolve.
And if dvd player still says no disc, qualified tech person would be next option.

Can't make it work

If the DVD doesn't recognise a DVD disc, then if can only be one of the following:
1. Not a compatible disc... Try a store bought disc.
2. Defective disc... same as above.
3. DVD player is defective and needs repaired or cleaned.

When a DVD player says "No Disc" it also means " Can't read Disc".

Hope that helps,

If the units not worth fixing then simply buy and inexpensive DVD player/recorder and hook it up via the external inputs. Good Luck
