Question about Westell Wirespeed VersaLink (A99-327W11-00) Router (A99327W1100)

Westell C90-327w30-06 Here is my problem. I currently have a Westell 6100 modem. I?ve been trying to set up some port forwarding and I?m having some problems. I asked CenturyTel for a new modem but they said they only lease them now. The tech suggested that I purchase a Westell 327w from ebay as that is the commercial modem they lease. It looks like I just purchase the wrong version?? My internet provider is CenturyTel and I guess from what I have read the 327w30 modem was set up for ATT. I?ve tried plugging it into my phone line to provide it DSL access but this just gives me an error and sends me back to the login screen. Is there a way to change the bios or something to make this compatible or am I just screwed? Thanks for your help. Jim

    It is possible that the protocol that you are using is PPPOE, we may need to configure your westell 327w in order for it to work.

    Don't buy their useless blather, Jim - I use a Westell 6100 with Centurytel, and (aside from the connection dropping every 15 minutes), it works fine. That's my house lines, though, not the modem.

    What specifically are you needing help with regarding port forwarding? I've done this successfully on mine, so I can help you. Please provide more detail and I'll do my best to assist with screenshots if I can :)

Your dsl line stays the same. you're only changing your dsl equipment.

if you are not able to go online using the 327w, you might need to have it configured depending on the type of connection that you have. if you are using PPPoE (which means you enter a username and password on the modem to connect to verizon) you need your 327w configured for pppoe. but if you are using DHCP connection, any modem or routers should be plug and play.

Most verizon customers from the west coast uses DHCP while those on the east coast uses PPPoE.

You can call tech support to make sure which type of connection you are using.

Try this:
Go to the interface through your browser: 192.168.1.1
Go to profile editor, if there is a profile listed, click edit. Then enter in your username under Account ID and then your password. Hit save, then OK.
Then hover over the configuration menu option, click on advanced WAN. It should look like the following attached screen shot to this message. If the VPI/VCI and Protocol are different, which they probably are, click the edit button. Make sure it matches exactly as it appears above. VPI=8, VCI=35, Protocol=PPPoE.

Westell 7500 set up guide


modems are not routers. Routers can port forward. You need your WAN to face your ISP, and your LAN will need to face your router. Once you have your router talking to your ISP you can set it up to hand out interal network services, but I doubt SOHO routers will do port forwarding. Routers, however, can do port translation like passing gaming traffic over port 80 (web). You can do that in the security tab on your linksys.

How do I turnon the USB on the westell 6100 modum?


f you reformatted your Windows on your pc, there's no need to change the settings of your network connections. The Westell 6100 can either be connected to your pc using the Ethernet port or the USB port if you're using the combo cable or Y-cable. It's more stable to use the Ethernet port for your Lan connection. For the USB, to reinstall the USB connection properly, you'll need the Verizon Installation CD. Make sure the USB is not connected to your PC first before you install it. You just need to follow the CD because it will tell you when to hook up the USB cable to the pc. If you still have the CD, after it runs, you have to select existing customer and then select connect new modem. After that you just to have follow the steps to install the USB connection properly and then your modem will work fine afterwards. If the problem still persists, you can try replacing the cable. If all else fails, it could be a modem problem already. You also need to check your Network Interface Card of NIC as we call it, it's built in your pc. it's the device that allows your pc to communicate with the modem. Normally after reinstalling windows, the NIC is forgotten, make sure you also install the drivers and utilities Cd for your windows.

Set your hardware to a static LAN IP, and enble port forwarding for your needed ports (Or put in DMZ and load a firewall)

How do i connect my verizon dsl westell 6100 to my belkin g rtr?


Wellll....since it seemed an impossible task, I tried the next best thing.
I bought a wireless adapter for the other pc and voila! they are on the internet, and I am returning the router.

Westell modem + Verizon DSL w/usb = No connection to router.

It is having trouble with the cam settings with your modem. You need to contact Verizon and they should get you line out.

Setup Wireless Router to Westell 6100 modem


Your Wireless router should have come with a CD. Insert the CD into your computer and follow it step by step. If it did not come with it here is a basic wiring setup.
From wall jack to Westell modem, From modem to uplink port on Max G router.
Reboot Westell modem. T
Everything should auto-configure unless you need a username and password for your DLS. If so you will need to program this into your router.

Connecting modem via ethernet cable


I'm not an expert in window based units but since it worked with Vista OS and not with XP. Sounds like you might try re-installing XP again. Take note on any windows that refer to the ethernet port during installation. It is likely you might of hit "next" without reading all the text. I know I have in the past. I changed over to mac and I know longer have any problems only at work but give then I give it to the IT Dept and wait and wait and wait.

Westell 6100 ethernet


the prob may b with the ethernet adapter on the computer or the ethernet port on the modem or the ethernet cable.....
to check ethernetadaptor  ping 127.0.0.1
to check the ethernet port on the modem...if u plugin the cable u should have a light lid up on the modem ..
to check the ethernet cable  try with an alt cable which is proved to be working

Port forwording


ok port forward if any has router this is easy ill get too others in momment

routers port forwarding features type in ip address in internet explorer search bar at top
router ip's start like this 192. type the whole ip in
this will ask you for password and that usually is the word "password" or "admin" threw that you can set the router port forward by going down the list

now for comps with out routers
goto control panel
then network connections
right click on your connection
goto properties
goto advanced
goto settings
you will be directed to windows fire wall
goto exceptions add program or port you want to forward

basically port forwarding is a program that keeps 2 comps from having conflict with each other running the same program and helps in monitoring ports for intrussions
