go to your computer broswer
1. type 192.168.254.254 in the adress bar - this should open your router properties. if it doesn't please post the make and model number of your router here so i can look it up.
2.you will need to put in passord , usually User:admin password:admin
3. look at the status screen and verify that the wireless on the router is enabled.
If it is not enabled, we will need to change a setting there to turn it on. again if you post the make and model numbers here i can look this info up in advance.
hope this helps.
Plug another Ethernet cable into one of the available ports
Plug the other end of that same cable into an Ethernet port on your PC
LinkSys Router Configuration
LinkSys routers now ship with a Setup Wizard which is intended to simplfy basic configuration tasks.
We do not recommend the LinkSys Setup Wizard for two reasons:
The Setup Wizard is not significantly easier that the regular configuration menus
If you use the Setup Wizard, you will end up learning two interfaces for your LikSys router instead of just one
Instead, we recommend simply starting your web browser and jumping into the configuration.
Once your web browser is open, go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password. Logging in to a LinkSys Router
The username is either blank or "admin" and the default password is "admin".
Once you are past the login screen, you are able to access (and change) a plethora of configuration options for your router.
Don't be worried by the enormous number and variety of options, your LinkSys router ships with default settings that enable it to work right out of the box in most environments.
From here the configuration options that you choose are largely up to your own personal preference.
If this is a wireless router, we recommend that you consider setting an SSID to identify the router as your own and configuring WEP to encrypt your wireless traffic.

Learn how to set up your Linksys Router.
Thomas installs a Linksys router to demonstrate what ease-of-use means.
If you have your pc connected directly to your Virgin Broadband modem through the ETH/LAN port on your pc then disconnect it from that port on your PC.
Then connect the same cable to your Belkin Routers Internet/WAN port. Then take the extra cable that came with the Belkin router and connect it to 1 of the 4 lan ports on the Belkin router. Then connect the other end to your PC in the LAN port.
After that, restart your PC and everything should be fine.
To connect more than one computer to same network, you need to use a router. Two modems will not work on same network. My suggestion: Buy a wireless modem router for cable broadband (and eventually a wireless network card for the other computer. Here is an example: Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B 4-Port Cable/DSL Ask retailer to get right model for your broadband. Connect the remote computer with wireless.
Is the problem that "nothing coming from the modem to the router" if the router has more than one Lan port try the cable from the modem to the router, in the first lan port or the last port.
if its a wireless problem, ensure wireless router function is turned on ,and the adapter is enabled on the pc , if you set up a security key in the router ensure that it is put into the other pc wireless setting.(but try setting up without any security keys) when succesfull you can ad the security measures.
sometimes you need to turn on the modem first then turn the router on after a little while to sort the ip address out before trying to connect the other pc, in the first instance.
hope this is of help please rate my efforts as this is our reward
