I have a sandisk 1gb sd card that, Im having some problems with. A while back I had taken some photos and put the card into my computer via a built in media reader. After browsing the photos and saving some of them. I took the card out. Some time went by and I needed to look at the photos again so I put the card in only to find that almost all of the photos were replaced by folders with random characters and a few of the photos file sizes were listed as 2+ gb exceeding that of the card memory.
I proceeded to format the card thinking that there was a virus on it or something sinister in a similar nature. It work fine for a time, then the pictures would disapear and the folders and the random files would show up again.
I need help.
I've ran a hijackthis and a few virus scans and nothing seems out of the ordinary.
This can happen when the card is removed when Windows is still accessing it. Even when you think you are not doing something, Windows could be. I am 99% certain there is nothing malicious on your system and the cause was early ejection.
To prevent this from happening next time, before removing the SD card try using the "Safely Remove Hardware" tray icon to safely remove your device. TIP: Do not remove any storage device (i.e. SD Card, Flash drive, etc.) if the light is blinking.
Happy computing!
