You will need a small Phillips screwdriver, and about ten minutes. Unplug the laptop and remove the battery. With the laptop closed and upside-down, with the empty battery port facing you, remove two black screws from the irregular panel on the upper left. Lift the panel out and set it aside. Mount the new HD in the new bay that you have ordered using four screws that also came with your upgrade package.(or two--you can get away with two if you really want) Attach the mini-IDE adapter (that you also have) to the new HD, being careful to note which way the pins go into the slots...there should only be one way it goes. Press the adapter firmly into place. Slide the drive-and-cage assembly into the upper slot above the first drive, and lower it into place. Secure with clips or a screw, whichever your kit uses. Replace the cover, screws and battery.
Have fun.

In the same way as the first one is fitted.but u hve to adjust the jumper settings given on the hard drive to set the second hard drive as a slave.the jumper settings are most of the time provided on the harddrive metal cover.

Just open the cabinet using screw drivers

and carefully look for the power cables.

just connect the power to the hard drive and the data cable to the mother board.

Missing system operation

Check the hard drive connections. If they are good you could try a new data lead. If even this doesn't work you have a failed hard drive. You will have to replace it and re-install the operating system.

How to remove hard drive from acer aspire x3200

Remove the cover/side panel on the case to get access to the components inside the computer.
The SATA hard drive is secured to the disk drive bay with 4 screws.
Unplug the SATA data cable and power cable from the hard drive, then remove the 4 screws securing the hard drive in the drive bay.
The hard drive can be removed from the drive bay.
Reverse this order to fit the hard drive back inside the computer.

How can I install my hard drive without the cd?

HI jamarrfinney

If you only want to install on your hard drive as backup, cd is not needed. just set the hard disk jumper to slave for IDE hard disk. If you are using SATA hard disk, no need to set jumpers, just insert the cable and then set the bios setup hard disk as a second hard drive (if necessary)

First, ensure that the bios is reading the hard drive and that the hard drive is part of the boot sequence. If you have a known working drive and the drive is not been read by the bios, you will get the Disc Boot failure error because windows resides on the disc which the bios cannot access.
Secondly, if the bios is reading the disc then ensure that the disc is set as part of the boot sequence-preferably the item after DVD drive should be Hard Disc in the boot menu.
If both of these items are in correct order then you could have a bad boot sector on the drive. Run a C:Chkdsk. If no bad sectors are found try C:Fixmbr-ensure that the Windows installation disc is in the CD/DVD drive when running Fixmbr.
If that fails do a clean install of windows.

Good Luck

Computer did not bootup after adding 2nd harddrive

Did you connect the drive to cable spot closest to the motherboard on the primary IDE channel? is it formatted? Did you try the drive on the Second IDE channel? Can your system support a 160 GIG drive?(if not try partitioning the drive.). Is the power and data cable connected properly?(the red line on the data cable should be closest to the power plug on the drive.)

Make it slave and attach to the machine. If it is SATA, then attach it normally and change the boot order in BIOS.

HP Media Centre PC 7250 can I add a hard drive?

Here's a step by step guide for that HP 7250 model on HP's website about how to replace, or remove/add the Primary and Secondary Hard Drives (which pictures that help).

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00639696&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1118243&rule=29389&lang=en

If your computer did not come with a second hard drive, you can install a second hard drive that you attach to the bottom of the inside of the computer tower.

Need to install a new hard drive into my son's Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Pro Laptop. Need to know which Hard Drive to purchase and how to fit / set-up. Any help you can provide would be gratefully...

If the laptop is less than 3 years old, then any 2.5'' hard drive will work.
Some laptop need slim hard drive, if you buy a slim 2.5'', this will mount on all laptops after 2004.
To get more details submit the problem on Fixya again providing information on your laptop's model.

I downloaded norton anti virus about seven months ago,and last week my hard drive crashed,i have had a new hard drive fitted but do i have to pay to have norton downloaded again?

Hey helen185,

If you've had to restore your computer and need to reinstall Norton Anti-Virus, you should be able to download the software a second time as long as you have access to your order number and/or Norton account information. You should be able to do so by following this link:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/cs/kbload.jsp?docurl=step_2007102605434976&selected_nav=1&prev_id=downloads_orders_01&prev_link=link_02

Please keep in mind that the software you purchased may need to be Norton 2006 or a more recent edition in order to be downloaded a second time, as information provided by the publisher indicates that older downloads are no longer available.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
