Question about Apple iPod nano

1 Answer

Nano Dilema Hi, I have an IPod Nano 2nd Gen. Recently, the IPod has stopped working. The message on the screen says that I must restore it on ITunes. Fine, so am using my work PC with ITunes downloaded onto it. The problem is- I do not have my songs saved onto this computer/ITunes playlist/library and it appears that I cannot do anything on ITunes without restoring 1st. Advice? I want to get it sorted as I cant listen to anything but if i have to erase all the songs anyway-what's the point? I need help. Thanks

ITunes should copy the songs to the computer before doing the restore.

My 2nd gen nano screen is gray except for the bar at the top that shows battery life and menu titles

Hi, this seems to be a screen failure, just to make sure, do you still see the gray area when you reboot your iPod? in other words, can you see the gray apple over the black background when you first turn it on?
You can reboot your iPod by holding the menu and the select button (the one you use to pick a song).
If you can't see the Apple logo, then your screen appears to be broken, you're gonna have to take it to a technician. If by the other hand your iPod does show the logo, you really should try and restore it; this will erase all the songs and configurations but should restore your iPod to a working state, to do this just connect your iPod and while on iTunes, press the button that says "Restore".

Ipod nano 4th gen. 8gb SCREEN LOCKED

restore iPod
  1. Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
  3. Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
  4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
  6. Click Restore.
  7. If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
  8. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
    • Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
    • Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
  9. During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
  10. After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
but unfotunately all your previously synced congs will be lost,,, but its ok then, because you can use your ipod again.

My nano won't restore.

Take it into your nearest Apple Store or Best Buy. It's covered under warranty so it won't cost you. The hard drive needs to be tested on it.
