How do i enable wireless internet on a 2 year old HP desktop

You have to have a wireless card installed on the desktop. Either a PCI wireless card that will be installed inside the computer on one of the pci slots or you can use a usb wireless card that plugs into the usb port.

Unlike laptops, there will be no switch to turn on or off. The wireless on desktops is controlled by the software program that comes with the wireless adapter.

Try Tiger Direct at:

http://www.tigerdirect.com

When the site comes up just type: PCI Wireless Adapter or USB Wireless Adapter in the white search box at the top of the page and click GO.

WIRELESS IS TURNED OFF OF MY INSPIRON 530 HOW DO ITURN IT ON

Is your Dell a laptop or desktop?

Driver Updates
If it's a desktop then you would need to connect a blue or beige colour of 50' of cabling of the RJ-45 cable to your network connector.

This will allow you to access the internet.

Download an updated version of the driver for your wireless. Sometimes Microsoft sends too many updates and it can also change certain settings to your computer.

Fn Key (Function Key)
Also check if you have a key for the wireless to go on. Such as a Fn +F4 would normally be for the wireless to stay active. But in your case this would indicate either your wireless card is malfunctioning or it's time to replace it with a new one. So make sure you have it running when you login.

Opening of the system housing (system case)
Also you can open up the system case and just follow your manual for instruction into how to open up the case. It's fairly easy to open up the case and get into the system. Then see if the wireless card is seated correctly on the slot. If not just use a little force on it so it can go right into the slot and seated properly.

Then restart your system and should allow your wireless to work.

I hope this will help you Debbie.

Can't get my dell to connect to wireless (desktop)

The 530 does not have a wireless network card. If you installed a wireless (wifi) card or USB adapter it usually comes with an installation CD which will guide you through the install process.

Hi there.
You hit the nail right on the head!! desktops don't come wireless enabled so you will need a wireless card installed into it.
I recommend a wireless PCI card as a Dongle are not that good and can be easily broken.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Got a hp laptop with wireless on it the wireless has just stopet working i have to use a usb adapter so that i can go on the internet.can you tell me how to get my wirelss back.thank you.

does the non working wireless card still show up in the device manager?
if so does it show up as installed or with error?

if not is it enabled in the bios?

Also i have seen people accidently turn off the internal wireless card by pressing the little button on the laptop without realizing it or on some laptops the internal card can be turned on and off with function key combination..

On some models when you turn off the internal wireless card with the litttle switch the card will still show up in the device manager as installed and look ok but will not find any networks at all...
and right clicking on the icon and selecting enable radio does nothing untill you phisically turn it on with the little switch

there should be some sort of light or indicator somewhere on the laptop that lights up when the wireless is on..

what model HP laptop do you have?
