Since you stated you are attempting to ( "hook" it up to my laptop )
you are essentialy telling me that you are attempting to connect your laptop up to the router using cat5 cable.

for a cat5 cable connection
1. connect the cable to port 1 of the router , NOT THE ( connect to cable modem port )
2. connect the other end of the cable to your notebook
3. boot up your notebook

for a wireless connection from your laptop to the router
you will need to follow the proceedures for connecting to a wireless network

as shown here on youtube.

I need help with hooking up the front panel wires from a acer veriton 460 on to a asus p5g41t-m lx plus mother board

I don't think it's gonna' fit.

Acer Veriton L460 computer Case Dimension specifications,

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/VeritonL460/VeritonL460sp2.shtml

Chassis: 2.5 inches Wide (63.55mm) x 10 inches Long (254mm) x 8 inches High (203.2mm).

Asus P5G41T-M LX motherboard is 9.6 inches LONG, (244mm), and 7.9 inches High (201mm).

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41TM_LX/#specifications

However,...........

If you do not know what the Power On switch, Power On LED light, and Harddrive activity LED light wires are, then remove the Front Panel, and trace them back.

(Side Panel then Front)

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41TM_LX/#specifications

Click on the Download tab.
(Overview / Specifications / Download / etc)

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41TM_LX/#download

Click on any O/S. They will all get you to the Manual download.
Click on the + sign to the left of Manual (12)

Scroll the inside blue bar down until you come to -
Version E7096 -
P5G41T-M LX User's Manual (English)

Click on the blue - Global

A small window will come up on the right -
Opening E7096_P5G41T-M_LX.zip

[This is a Zip file. A Zip file is used to send large amounts of information, more easily. A Zip file is a Compressed file. It needs to be uncompressed after downloading, or can be stated as 'unzipped'.

If WinZip is no good on your computer, then just download the free 7-Zip ]

Make sure there is a Green dot in the small circle, to the left of Save File.
If there is no Green dot; left-click in the small empty circle to the left, of Save File.
Now go below in the small window, and click on OK.

A small window will come up on the left.
Allow the file to fully download in this window.
Then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.

On the left side in the next window, click on - Extract all files.
At the bottom of the next three small windows, click on -
Next, Next, and Finish.

In the last small window DOUBLE-click on the file name -
E7096_P5G41T-M LX, next to the red Adobe PDF icon.

Page 1-6 (16 of 62) shows the Motherboard Layout.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel connect to, is the Front Panel header.

Motherboard installed in computer case; Processor to Top, Ram Memory slots to the Right, white PCI slots to the Bottom;

the Front Panel header is below the bottom white PCI slot, and next to the bottom edge of the motherboard.

5 pins across the Bottom row.

8. System panel connector (10-1 pin PANEL)

Pins aren't numbered, I'm going to number them;

Pins across the Top row are numbered EVEN.
Pins across the Bottom row are numbered ODD.

Starting on the LEFT side going towards the Right; Top row,
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO Pin 10.

Starting on the Left side going towards the Right; Bottom row,
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is N/C. Not Connected. 5 Volt power reserved for the factory.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED. (Light)
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

F) There is NO Pin 10. Just a flat spot.

The small 4-pin header immediately to the LEFT, is for an internal speaker. Used to hear BIOS Beep Codes. The computer's way of telling you something is wrong, and an area to look into for it.

The Front Panel USB header is listed, and Firewire ports. (1394a)

I want to clear my hard drive, because I'm giving my computer to someone

You don't really want to clear your hard drive unless the person you are giving it to has an operating system to reload, otherwise the computer is useless to them. What you really want to do is get rid of all of your documents, music, pictures and videos. Here's what you should do. 1) Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts and select the option to create a new account. Give the new account the name of the person you are giving the laptop to with administrative rights (not a limited account) or give in a generic name such as Owner or User. 2) Once you've created the new account do a restart of your computer and when it comes up log in to the New Account that you created. 3) Now click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts once again, but this time select your old account, then look for the option to Delete User Account. 4) Delete your old user account and delete all associated files when asked. It will take a few minutes but when finished all of your documents, music, pictures and videos will be long gone and your user account will be gone also. Now when you give the computer to the new owner it will be operational and he can start using it.

Front header pins for Veriton 3900 STD

I don't think you will be able to find anything this way , I looked and only thing I found was some elite group motherboards..but to be sure ..take a look inside and post the motherboard name ..and after that we can find a motherboard user guide ..cause the diagram you need always is present in the motherboard guide..
So ..either post the name and I will look for it ..or just make a search by the name ..and in the guide look for the front panel..You will have a location of the connector and a tab with order..pay attention on the missing pin for guidance The missing pin is specified so you will now which row will be the impair numbered ..and the wires have numbers and names on it ..specified in the tab ..
I will link one I found and uses the same chip-set ..and if we are lucky is the one you have ..
anyway usually it is the same if it uses same chip-set
here is the user guide
http://eudownload.ecs.com.tw/dlfileecs/manual/mb/eng/p4/G31T-M_V2a.pdf
On page 17 you will find what you look for

Hi my name is peter and i have a compaq presario sr2150nx desktop. im running windows 7 ultimate and the computer is not hooked up to the internet. and the screen when u can choose which user to log in it...

All the user profiles are corrupted - some installed program that should be launched during boot is incompatible with Win 7.
Since you don't know which program and the extent of the corruption all you can do is to reinstall Windows and then install all the programs back, one at a time - when the problem returns you will know that the last program is bad, get rid of it.

Hi I have a netopia 3341 router DSL with ethernet hookup and a linksys wrk54g wireless g. When I hook up my desktop it has XP on it, I get nothing. The linksys was given to me and worked at its previous...

ok so the wireless router you got given, was that simply unplugged from it's previous home and then plugged in at yours?
In order for it to work (to connect your pc) it will need to be reset back to factory and then reconfigured..
It should have some type of small almost pin sized hole on the back or bottom of it, with the unit plugged in, press this with a pin or paper clip in and hold for 2 to 3 seconds then let go, do this around 10 times and it will definatly be back to factory settings.
Once you have done that it needs to be plugged in with a cable to desktop or laptop to configure it (set up broadcast name and password) BUT you need to know the ip address of the device (normally 10.1.1.1 for wireless)
Once it is directly pluged in to computer with ethernet cable, Open your Internet exploier.
Type in the address bar: http://10.1.1.1
IF this is the correct ip for the device it will open a page for you to configure router...If nothing opens try these:
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.254
If it asks for user name and password these are normally either:
User: admin
Password: (leave blank)
OR
User: admin
Password:admin

once your in, your looking to set up wireless..

Let me know how you get on
