Check these steps..
1. Open the CPU cabin and make sure that the power cable and the data cable to the DVD burner is fixed correctly.
2. Goto "My computer".Right click and click "properties".Goto "Device manager".Make sure your DVD burner is mentioned under "CD/DVD ROM drives".Right click that to find whether your drive is in enabled or disabled state.
3. If your burner is not mentioned under it.Scan for hardware changes.

this might be the burning software program you are using
there are many freeware burning programs on the net
what sort of cd disk are trying to burn ie: data media iso........
how many disks does this happen to ? ?
the cd's you have might be a bad batch!!!
can you burn dvd's ??
