This is just a worthless error message. You can just reset the waste ink counter to fix this issue.. The reset instructions are given below..
1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal.

Let me know how it turned up..

Hello. When I try to print, I receive a message saying "waste ink absorber is almost full. Press the printer's start button to restart printing." USB002. What do I need to do? Can I...

Hi Sue,

The ink absorbers are feltpads located in the bottom of the printer. You will not be able to change them as the machine needs to be stripped down and the engine removed to gain access to them. They dont cost much but its the labour charge that makes it an expensive operation. Eventually the machine will stop working until they are changed.

Its a job best left to a trained canon engineer. (its very messy too)

Tip

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

E8 Waste ink absorber full, or platen waste ink absorber full WHAT MUST DO?

I am told that this will reset your counter and eliminate the full absorber warning that you are getting.

Cleaning the pads is messy, sending the printer to Canon is expensive,

I used a simular reset code for my MP470 and haven't had any problems.

1. To clean physical pads:
Open cover (as if replacing ink cartridge).
Locate waste ink pads, they are far right under cartridge slider.
Pry up waste ink pads (inky, might want to wear gloves).
Rinse pads in sink or with alcohol, dry.
Replace pads. Make sure pads are fully seated.

2. To reset waste ink counter:
Press Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan to enter service menu.
Use arrow keys to scroll to "Service menu counter access".
Press OK.
Use arrow keys to scroll to "ABS-M DOT COUNT"
Press Copy.
Use arrow keys to reset count to zero.
Press OK.
Press Stop/Reset.

I have a cannon mp 145 printer, but ink absorber is full

this printer isnt and easy fix of changing the waste ink absorber. You will need to take it into a Canon repair center and have them do it. It should take them no longer then an hours labor and the cost of the kit to fix. If you think you can technically do it yourself you can find the parts on ebay and the service manual. But be warned this can be a messy job and could possibly not work if you dont really know what your doing.

Best of luck...

How to take apart Cannon PIXMA iP3000 to clean the waste absorber

You need to replace the ink absorber kit and to completely disassemble the printer to replace the absorber. Attempting to clean the ink absorber is not recommended. Self servicing the absorber can be a very messy operation. I would check with a Canon repair center to see what the cost to have the servicing done by a trained technician. In some cases, it is cheaper to replace the printer.

The waste absorber is full

Call Canon at 732-521-7230 and they will sell you a new ink absorber pad. You will need the reset code for your model printer. Find this by searching for canon used ink tank. One of the results should match your machine. You can also take out the pad(It can be messy so wear gloves), wash with water hose, let it dry completely, and reinstall it in the printer.

Canon Pixma ip2000 saying waste ink absorber almost full

This is quoted from cannons website about your issue.

"This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full.

Here's the link

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=10237&kbpage=yes

So what they are saying more or less is throw out the printer because it's going to cost more to replace the absorber than to just buy a new printer.

If you ak me it's just another way these printer companies screw customers. Just my opinion.
Sorry about the bad news but at least you have your answer.

How to replace or clean waste ink absorber in Canon PIXMA iP3000

Cleaning or replacing the ink absorber is not for the faint of heart, it's a messy job, wear rubber gloves and old clothes. After the cleaning you still have to reset the counter so it will let you print again, so don't forget that part.
Here is a link to a web page with the full instructions for both procedures.
