Question about Air Conditioners

Starting a Regency fireplace: gas is on, I turn the dial to pilot. I am suppose to push the dial in, spark the themocouple and hold it for 30 seconds. My problem is that the dial doesnt push in. The only place the dial pushes in is when it is in the off position...why not in the pilot position?

Can you spark it and does it light in the "off "position? Try it and see if when the pilot stays on, you turn it to pilot and the burner ignites.

You need to push the gas supply knob inwards and HOLD it while lighting the ignitor.
Once lit keep holding for 15 seconds and release.
The gas thermo switch needs to warm up first before it will allow a constant flow of gas. Also called the gas fail save device.

We can get the pilot light on but the logs do not have a flame

If that is a millivolt type heater, the pilot generator is weak. It will hold the pilot but not operate the solenoid. Get a new pilot generator. If it works ok for a minute or 2 but dies then the pilot safety feature is dusty and nees to be blowed out.

If this happens each time the blower starts, you have a crack in the heat exchanger and need to replace furnace. If the blower is not starting, it could be a high limit opening up because of the heat being generated. By pass the high limit circuit to see if it stays on and the blower works. This is only a test procedure, do not continue to run system like this. If you have a manual fan switch, turn it on and then start the heater.

OUR FIREPLACE WILL NOT IGNITE. THE PILOT IS LIT. WE HAVE HAD ALWAYS HAD TROUBLE IN THE PAST BUT IT WOULD EVENTUALLY LIGHT. NOW, AFTER MORE THAN A DOZEN TRIES, IT WILL NOT.

The safety feature for your fireplace is probably a millivolt pilot generator. It serves 2 functions. It holds open the pilot safety magnet AND operates the solenoid on the millivolt gas valve. The pilot generator is weak. It will hold open the safety but not work the operator selenoid on the gas valve. Replace it. And party on!

First turn the dial on the hot water heater to the off position and wait for 5 minutes. Then turn the dial on the water heater to the pilot position. Press in the dial and use a gas grill lighter, long wooden match, or similar device to light the pilot. Once the pilot is lit, continue to hold in the dial for about 1 minute then release and turn the dial to the temperature setting that's comfortable for you.

On some gas valves the pilot setting is on the same dial as pilot on and on .on others the pilot light has aseperate button on right side of control dial. If yours has this there will be a cut out on cotrol dial that must be aligned with button to allow it to be depressed to light pilot. If yours has this align control dial cutout with pilot button, depress button and light pilot, hold for about one min. and slowly release,if pilot light stays lit, turn down thermostat and rotate control dial normally to right . There should be arrows or marks on dial and gas valve to line up. If pilot light stays lit turn dial to next position and check to see that pilot is still lit. This should be on position, turn up thermostat and burner should light. If your dial has pilot light setting on it then rotate dial to each position, try to depress dial and when you have right one dial will depress allowing you to light pilot. Follow same procedure as above and you should be in business. Hope this helps.Thank you

The gas pressure is not stable. Either gas pressure valve is problematic, or the burner orifice is dirty and the pressure out is blocked. You can try to clean the burner orifice first.

I need help relighting the pilot light on my Marco mfg gas fireplace-model # 794015c

First, turn the wall switch to the off position. Second, turn the key all the way tcountercockwise to the open position. At the front of the unit, below the hearth opening there is a black front access panel. Should have a little recessed part. pull it out and expose the gas valve. Turn the plunger/knob that says off, on, pilot to the pilot position. You'll knw your in the pilot position when it lines up with the indicator (usually a red or black mark on the gas valve body). If you are in the pilot position, you will be able to push in the pilot (it will feel springy). Push the plunger in and then push the red button (piezo ignition button) in until it makes a snapping sound. You may have to do this several times because the air has to bleed out from the pilot tubing. This should light the pilot BUT wait. DO NOT LET GO OF THE PLUNGER ONCE THE PILOT IS LIT. You need to keep the plunger depressed for about 30 seconds and then let it go. After 30 seconds let the plunger go and verify the pilot is lit. If not try the last step over. After the pilot is lit, you may turn the plunger/knob to the on position. Now go back to the wall switch and flip it on. If it doesn't come on tap it hard. Sometimes dust can actually prevent it from making good connection. I work on fireplaces for a living and coincidentally worked on this model today. Simple as pie.

I dont know how to relight my furnace not sure where the pilot is please help. Kathi

First thing and this is very important turn the thermostat off. When you are in front of your furnace remove the top cover to expose the burners and pilot light. You will see a gas valve that has a knob, lever, or some kind of switch on top of it. It will have off pilot and on in raised letters on top of it. Now move the knob to pilot position and if you have a long lighter or maybe fireplace match something long enough to reach back into the unit about 10 inches or so. Depress the knob hold down reach back with lite match, lighter and get close to pilot and there it will lite. Hold knob down for about 30 seconds and let go. Did the pilot stay on? Good if it did. Turn the knob to the on position and go to the thermostat and turn on the furnace. Now if you are nervous about lighting the pilot light you could call the gas company in your area and explain your situation and they should come out and do it for free. let me know how it turns out. ken
