No dial tone on phone connected to ext port on epson dx9400f

Buy a double adapter so both cords go to the LINE port. Set your answering machine to 6 or 7 rings so the fax picks up first. Your fax machine will know the difference between voice and fax calls,

Error code 48

Code 48 is internet disconnect.
On the machine if the machine is set up for internet connection, turn it off. Sometimes email is turned on and the other settings are not setup correctly.
Make sure all settings are done correctly
If one is faxing make sure the phone line is connected correctly and their is a good sounding dial tone.
One area to keep in mind is a phone dial tone turning off and on.This can be a phone company issue or poor line connectors in the building, even a corroded plug on the phone receptical.
Check these areas, even replace the phone line cord with a new one.
On the machine a fax machine not sending or recieivng, suspect a board causing the problem.

Cannot receive faxes, but can send

Hello,
I can send faxes from my HP Fax 1010, but cannot receive them. I can dial the number from another phone but it will keep ringing and the machine never picks up. We have tested the phone line and all seems well. Is there some setting on the fax machine itself that I need to change in order to receive? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

We have an internet modem(connected w/an ethernet cable) that also includes a phone line which also connects to a fax machine. We only have one phone number and we were told if we put our fax on auto...

Most fax machines do not operate well on digital lines.
Contact your provider and see what fixes they have for your specific fax machine.
Most fax machines still require an analogue line.

Pc compatibility

The brother 560 has NO provision for connection to a PC.. The specifications do not mention PC compatibility, nor is there provision for either USB or RJ-45 connections on the machine.. You could use the phone line connector on your PC, but there is no exchange of data on the phone line between the PC and the fax. The phone plug on your PC is meant mainly for connection to the Internet via telephone, or to use the PC-to Fax feature, if so equipped.

Fax machine rings when I call out using another phone connected to same line

My phone does the same thing but only when it storms. Click website link. http://www.weirdstuff.com/cgi-bin/item/12165 Maybe I should get one. I know it says for DSL noise but it also cuts down on cross connection noise.

"poor line condition'

This is a problem with your voice over ip service. You have to change the setting on your fax machine for example the Baud speed down to 9600, the ECM= off, and the Oversea settings on. Make sure your VoiP ATA is the first thing after your modem or whatever connection you are using for the internet. If you using and old model fax 95% of the time it will not work with VoIP service.
