My Emachine T3085, has a problem. I have had this computer for about 3 years or so and all of the sudden about every 15 seconds everything on my desktop disapears (icons, any open windows, and start menu bar). My internet still works and I am able to go to web sites. I downloaded a virus scanner and I have deleted all of the found viruses. Ever heard of this problem before? Please Help!! Thanks

1. Remove the cover
2. Check to see if dirt and dust have collected on the CPU fan

If dirty move to step 3

3. remove the heat sink assemboly
4. wash it under warm watter , use a little windex if you need to , scape off the old thermal compound
5. dry it off , make sure it's dry
7. use some thermal paste from the computer store or radio shack or online , to replace the old thermal compound.
8. reattach the heat sink fan assemboly to the processor
9. start the computer.
10. if you have no farther errors , that means you did a good job pat yourself on the back and have a snack cake.

I believe your problem may be the motherboard

    T3085

Is an AMD Athlon XP 3000+

AMD Athlon XP3000+ ( if these CPUs overheat they will not shut down , but the motherboard will shut them down )

You could be experiencing thermal shutdown not because of overheat of the CPU since you cleaned it.

but a thermal shutdown because the motherboards thermal settings a configured incorrectly in the bios.

    Check to make sure.

    Let me know what happens.

if thats not the case , you may have a faulty motherboard.

My emachine t3085 freezes up on the computer name screen after reformatting the hard drive

First, you don\'t format from NTFS to NTFS to clean a hard drive when installing a OS. Formatting is for changing a format not cleaning. You use a program like boot and nuke, Active kill disk, these zero the drive.

Place the windows disc in or USB drive in, what ever the OS is on, and hit F8, F11, what ever the boot menu is to boot from cd drive or flash drive.

I have been building top of the line computers for over 10 years, never heard of a bypass, you have a BIOS, there are boot settings, there are not many settings in your BIOS. What ever the problem is, its a BIOS setting.

Replacing battery

the battery is on the motherboard, it's a small round silver battery, just pop it out and replace. you shouldn't need to save your bios settings. when you put the new battery in. you don't need to do anything apart from taking old battery out and putting new one in.

My Ibm thinkpad r52 wont charge. The battery has a very minimal charge left on it and i can turn the computer on and it start booting up for about 10 or 15 seconds.

This could be due to one of 3 things:
Your battery could have gone bad. They normally have a life of perhaps 3 years, but shouldn't suddenly just quit. They gradually have less and less time between charges.
Second, it could be your power adapter. Get a voltmeter and take a reading of the voltage that comes out of it. Should be around 18 volts, If I remember correctly.
Third: It's the motherboard--the charging circuit in the computer itself.
So--if it suddenly quit charging, the battery is "probably" not the problem. Now rule out the adapter. Finally, replace the motherboard.

Changed BIOS and now emachine w3052 woulnt boot

try resetting BIOS
On the motherboard will be written clear cmos or bios this will be a small 2 or 3 pin connector
2 pin remove the jumper which is only on one pin and fit it over both for 15 or 20 seconds remove jumper fit back over 1 pin reboot all things being equal your computer should start

3 pin remove jumper from pins noting which pins it is on fit jumper over middle pin and the one it was not on before leave for 15 or 20 seconds replace jumper over original pins and reboot
