Hello sjustinh,

It sounds like your color processor may have gone bad or at least the circuitry connected to it. To solve this problem you will need a schematic, a digital storage oscilloscope, a signal generator, and a multimeter. Now if you don't know what these devices are and do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you take the TV set to a qualified TV repair person. I am not trying to put you down or anything its just that this problem requires that you open up the set and using the schematic trace down the signals that control the LCD screen and find out the condition of the signals that display green. Since green is the result of the algebraic addition of red and blue, you may have a problem in the circuitry that controls that function.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Testimonial: "Thanks for the input. I called a TV Repair Co. and he said it was the tube w/o looking. Of course he wants me to buy a new tube for it b/c its alot more $$ in his pocket. I dont want to pay a $60 for him to come to my house and tell me that. Why wouldnt he suggest the CRT Drive Board or even the Color Processor?"

Is it bowed top and bottow? One fix and a common problem with this set is there is a fuse right next to the flyback the seems to open because of broken solder joints. There is 3 off them and the middle one seems to blow all the time. Check the fuse with a meter and see if its open. If it is, follow the next set of directions.

To fix this, you will need to resolder the flyback and several other components. Then jump the fuse or replace it. I have personally done both but I don't like to jump the fuse because it defeats its purpose as a fuse.

You will need a T-20 and a T-10 screw driver to take the back off. The flyback with be on the left hand side of the set with a red wire coming off the top of it and the fuses will be located an inch or so to the right of the flyback. If you have schematics, sorry I don't know the designations of the components. Another problem, I have seen is on the right hand side of the set. There is a ribbon cable about 2 inches wide. The topside board(Convergence board). That connector is also known to go bad as well. Replace the connector.

Resolder the connections on the hv transformer. Check and replace the pico fuse beside the transformer. It looks like a little brown box. The middle one is the one. There are 3 together there. 400 ma is the value.

The sound went out while watching a program on the set.

It sounds like the IC that controls the sounds has gone. Once upon a time they used to start with the letters TDA and other sets of letters that would make them instantly recognizable but nowadays it could start with anything so unless you know what you are looking for call out a technician. Good luck.

Does the standby light flash in a set pattern? Some tv have a error code system which pinpoints the fault by flashing the standby light a certain number of times. Other than that my best guess would be a fault on the power supply or a fuse blown internally. Good luck.
