Since your laptop is brand new , you may not be familure with it's function keys , FN

Sometimes the users accidentaly presses the FN and the F5 monitor function key at the same time.
which effectively turns the notebooks display off.

D in the image below is the FN function key
and the monitor function key could be F5 , it will have a little monitor symbol on it.

When they are pressed together it will turn the notebooks display off and enable any VGA monitor connected to it's VGA ports. when pressed again , they will turn of the VGA port and turn on the notebooks display.

I have a toshiba satellite A205-S500 I am looking for a replacement black keyboard and I believe the LCD Screen needs to be replaced where can I buy these two parts and can I install them myself.

You are looking at about $200 for keyboard and LCD, and you could buy them from here http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,A205,PSAE3U-07Y023,Laptop,LCDs-Displays.aspx
As for installing them yourself, it's pretty easy if you're handy with a screwdriver. Have a look here for a video guide:

Unfortunatly you do have dead pixels, but you cant fix them. Lots of lcd displays have them, some are more noticable than others, it dosent mean your lcd monitor is going to fail soon or anything like that, even brand new lcd monitors have dead pixels it is a comman anoying problem with them.

Well my toshiba satellite u405-s2820 turns on but the screen is just black... what I'm I to do??

Firstly unplug everything from the laptop (even the power) and remove the battery, hold the power button down for 10secs then plug the power back in only, see what happens...

If nothings changed...
Try and plug a normal monitor into the VGA port and turn the laptop on;
you will get the toshiba POST screen if the graphics card still works (then the actual screen is at fault)
if you dont then the graphics card is at fault..

[Just a thought... does the laptop bleep when you first turn it on?]

Let me know how you get on...

Toshiba Satellite P25-S5092/ Computer will come on, but screen will not work. Wondering if it is most likely the LCD screen itself, the backlight or something else.

Hi,

If you have deduced that indeed the Toshiba Satellite P25-S5092 will boot and therefore operational except no display on the screen, you can always verify by connecting an external monitor. You of course would need to press Fn + F? (the F key with the small monitor icon).

As to the LCD screen having no display, often this could either be the CCF lamps (cold cathode florescent) and/or the inverter that powers it. One way to verify this is by shining a flashlight obliquely to the screen and a portion of your desktop would show albeit very very dark. Often, it is the inverter that fails. In some instances it could even just be a cold solder, loose connection or capacitors that have dried up, leaky or blistering.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Its on my wifes toshibe satellite notebook. The screen went to gray and now won't load windows or when use restore disk the same problem

Sounds like the display has gone bad. Most likely the inverter, which supplys high voltage to the tube that lights up the screen.

Does a monitor hooked up to the laptop display properly? If so this pretty much confirms that it is the display that is faulty. The only fix I can comfortably recommend to the do-it-yourselfer is to take it in for repair, though you may be better off replacing the whole laptop.

To fix the problem you need to open the laptop an check the display cable. If you want to do it yourself I suggest to look for Toshiba Satellite schematics on the Internet
