Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

Webroot Spy Sweeper

On 9/17/08 I took over 2 hours to download a free update for Spy Sweeper on my Vista computer system. Since then I have had the hardest time even getting on-line. The Windows Internet Explorer task bar fades and I have the "wait" symbol for so long I just shut the computer off by the main switch. Can I reset my computer to the 16th to undo the download and get my computer back to the original settings on Spy Sweeper ? What do you suggest ? I only have til Dec. 25,2008 til this program expires and I won't buy it again. Thank you for a prompt reply and any help you can give me.

    I updated the Webroot Spyware, and now I can't go online, please help to solve this problem, I have used Webroot for years and this is the first time I have experienced this problem, I will definitely re-think purchasing this program again.



    I connect to the internet through cable modem.

Compatability issue


On Feb. 12, 2008, Microsoft released an update that fixed the recent compatiblity issues between Windows Vista and Webroot Antivirus/Spy Sweeper that were a result of a previous Windows Jan. 8, 2008 update.
Recommended Fix:
To fix this issue, update your copy of Windows Vista with the latest updates available as of 2/12/2008. For many users, Windows Vista will update automatically at its next scheduled time, but the update is also available as a manual download. See below for instructions on how to update Windows Vista.
We also recommend updating your copy of Webroot Antivirus/Spy Sweeper. The latest version does not experience any compatibility issues and it is generally recommended that you update your software to the latest version in order to ensure maximum security and protection of your PC.

Spysweeper is incompatibile with this verison ofwindows vista


Webroot may provide you with a free upgrade if you recently purchased your software.

All customers who purchased software from Webroot Software are eligible for free replacement and software updates within one year of their original date of purchase (or the purchase of a registration renewal).

Fill out the form at this link (http://www.webroot.com/updates/redownload/request) and after webroot verifies your info they should e-mail you a download link and keycode if you purchased within the last year.

Although in my humble opinion Spy sweeper is a bit of a resource hog and does not provide the best protection against malware/Spyware. I would recommend checking out malware bytes Anti-malware (they have both a free and a paid PRO version that has automatic protection). It is much more effective, cheaper, and your pc will run faster with this then spysweeper.

I have a subsription with McAfee and I cannot download the software before having this webroot spy sweeper removed.I cannot find it on my computer and never had a subscription with this webroot spy...


first uninstall the webroot spy sweeper through the following steps.
1.click start 
2.go to control pannel
3.open 'add or remove program'
4.a window will open wait for some time until the list is populated

5 i)in that list find webroot spy sweeper and click remove 
   go through the uninstall wizard and finish the uninstallation process

5 ii)if you didn't find webroot spy sweeper there then it can be a virus
You need to download a program called MalwareBytes because that searces your entire computer
, finds the virus and completely destroys it.

Click the green 'download now' button (don't worry - this is free) and once you've downloaded it, got the updates and done a system sweep which takes a long time but it's worth it, you should be fine. It also solves the desktop, wallpaper and screensaver hijack, too.

6. restart your computer

7.open mycomputer click search and do a search for webroot spy sweeper
delete all the files and folders regarding webroot spy sweeper

8.now download mcafee before installing mcafee uninstall MalwareBytes and restart your pc
because at a time only one antivirus software should be used

i think this solution will help you 
if the problem is not fixed please inform i will suggest some other ways

Webroot SpySweeper 5.5 incompatible with Vista Home Premium 32bit


You can always try Spybot its free and will know for its detection and removal of spyware.

Sweeper is and vista home


Though it's been a while since I used Webroot products, I believe you need to select help or possibly file after opening Spybot and select update. Make sure your firewall isn't/doesn't block it from updating.

12/4/2007- Webroot experienced a brief system outage that may have caused some current Webroot Antivirus/Spy Sweeper users to receive a "keycode is valid but not in the database" error. To resolve this issue, please do a manual update of your software or wait for your program to do an automatic update check and the issue should be fixed.
