One thing you may need is a new AC power cord. It could be the cord itself that is bad. If you can find someone elses to try that may help. The other thing that it could be is the internal recharging circuitry. It is one or the other. First I would try a different power cable. If that doesn't help you will need to get your laptop serviced. If you have a moment to accept and rate this and the original solution appropriately it would be greatly appreciated.

Acer aspire 7551 Battery will not charge.

I had a similar problem with a laptop years ago...Where the battery terminals connect to the motherboard, and Im not sure about yours because the models are obviously way different, but in some, they use "battery boards" that connect to the motherboard and are seperate from the system. Those "battery boards" have lots of micro capacitors and resistors on them and are responsible for charging the battery and completing the power circuit to "start" the computer. If I took the battery board out of the laptop I had, the whole thing wouldn't work. Since your laptop is starting while plugged in, but the battery is not charging...I would look into this area first. I am going to rummage around to see if I can find a schematic of your laptop and maybe some parts info.

Sony laptop not getting charge

Check inside your Bios or System Setup for settings that control the battery. Turn your laptop off, then turn it on and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and try again. Once you are in the Bios or System Setup, search thru it for some settings that control the battery.

Hp pavilion Dv 7 won't power on even when the lap top is charged.

Pull the battery and plug it in to the wall (in other words rule out the battery). If it still refuses to come on, check out this troubleshooting link:

My battery states that it is fully charged but when I switch on the laptop it says that I need a new battery. My laptop also gets very hot.

In my experience, you should trust your laptop, not your battery.

Concerning hot - can your computer breathe? You shouldn't actually sit your lap top on your lap ... it should sit on a hard surface so air can be drawn into the vents by the fan.

Lap top no power

If you were given a laptop with a brand new battery, it does need to charge for a while and depends on the manufacturers suggested charge time.

You should be able to power the laptop on without the battery attached. If you can't, you probably have a power supply issue on your hands or a bad component on the mother board. It may be less expensive to just get a new laptop.

My acer aspire 5735Z wiil not stay charged for more than 1 hour when not one the charger and just shuts off even if battery indicator shows atleast 50% charge, is just a bad battery?

Batteries wear out with use and can be replaced easily with a new one.

If you laptop is more than one year old then most probably the battery is weak and cannot hold the charge. When a battery becomes weak its capacity to hold charge reduces considerably until you have to remove it to start the laptop (with charger only).

You can continue using it until the battery time drops to about 10 minutes. After that, simply replace it with a new one.

If the laptop is new and under warranty, you should contact warranty support asap.

To increase battery life place the laptop on a solid table where there is ample air flow beneath. Heat will destroy a battery faster such as when used on bed or your lap often.

Regarding you question about shutting down even when battery is 50% it could be due to following reasons:

  1. Power Settings within the control panel.
  2. The battery charge drops quickly so that it discharges very quickly when it is showing half. Remember that the indicator is an estimate and does not account for battery degradation over time.
  3. Other issues like over heating etc but please check first two points first.

Get a new battery. The life span of a laptop battery is typically only 1-2 years. Check to see if it's still under warranty.

Charging lap top battery

As soon as the AC is plugged in, the battery will start to charge. The battery light located somewhere on the laptop should indicate you that it is charging. It does not matter if the laptop is turned on or off.

What you explain here about the first battery is very common for a 4-5 y.o. laptop. The longevity of the battery mainly depends on the number of charging/discharging cycles it encountered. If the second battery you want to try spent more time in a carrying case than in the laptop, it may still be usable. But do not expect to go over 1 hour of autonomy with it.
