My daughter entered the wrong code to many times and I'm not sure how to reset it. It's craftsman 1/2 hp, but I can't find the model #

Two things. Check for a broken door spring. If okay, remove the cover from the motor housing and check for a bad drive gear. This is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. If it is going bad it should be obvious.

List the model numbers - that will help.

Seems you've done everything right. Press and immediately release the smart/learn button and then walk over and key in a 4 digit code and press enter. If you are sure the battery in the keypad is good then I think your keypad is on the fritz or the wrong one for that opener.

I doubt your daughter did something to it but you can try programming it. If it doesn't work after programming then it will need to be replaced.

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

First thing you need to do is make sure it is the correct keypad. If it is an older model it will not work with your opener. They correct keypad for your opener is 139.53754.

Make sure the battery in the keypad is good. If you cannot get the keypad to work using this method to program then your keypad has failed.

Lets make sure you are programming it correctly, make sure the battery is new. Press and release the learn button on the motor. Within 30 seconds enter in the 4 digit code followed by the up/down button. The light bulb should flash once. If you can't get it to code in this way you will need to replace the keypad. Thanks BB

The only procedure I have ever followed is to press the learn button and then enter the code, and not do anything else. I think your last step of holding the button until the light goes out is clearing codes as fast as you enter them. Just stop after you enter your code and let the learn mode time out on its own. That should do it.

And don't put your head through the wall. It just causes more headaches.
