I have a Maytag MMV5000BAB. I am having issues with the numbers and timers not operating. I have to continually push until it finally registers what is needed. It is not just one number, but the entire area. My inlaws have the same one and are having the same issue. Is there a common problem with them? Is there a fix?

You have a failed keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

How do you access the fuse in a Maytag Model#MMV5000BAB

Maytag Model #MMV5000BAB

Hello Karen Smith,

I think it would be nice to tell you MORE DETAIL... (sorry).

Typically the fuse OPERATES because the magnetron is getting burned out... but HEY fuse is cheap... check out the parts houses below (just that getting an UNDERCABINET down each time can be a SERIOUS PAIN.

"appliancepartspros" will let you order the parts and return
THOSE UN-USED
parts... (pretty handy).

MOST likely from poor use & abuse...

I watched my sisters grand kids warm "butter pats" in her NEW convection micro-wave. It was VERY short lived...!!

There's A REASON they advise not operating them EMPTY. With care (reading instructions) some actually do get OLD.

Timer button not working as it should

The only way to fix the problem is to replace the timer mechanism, the hard part is finding one, and maybe on the pricey side. Try www.ebay.com type make and model of microwave oven, and scroll through the list.

I have maytag advance cooking system(electric) and the oven will not work. The timer to set the oven and the time is not lighting up but the stove is working.any sugestion

try resetting the clock. If it is digital, push the clock button and then the number buttons untill you have the proper time displayed...then push the clock button again. If your clock and timer are manual, try pushing in the clock lever and turning it 1/4 turn. If this works it would indicate that your timer has a start and finish time and that the oven is not working because the clock has rotated around to the finish time.

You have a failing membrane keypad.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open.

Maytag microwave just died.

Take it back to the store and make them do something about them. If they dont then file a complaint with the BBB no reason for you to have to deal with this when it is there problem. It sounds like there is a venting issue and more going on

Keypad on our microwave is malfunctioning

You have a shorting membrane keypad. If the oven is coming on by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Maytag Microwave Power Outage - Model MMV5000BAB

Found this under GE instead of Maytag, but can answer for you here.

It may be the internal fuse, but more likely it is the thermostat on the magnetron.

Maytag Microwave Power Outage - Model MMV5000BAB

It's almost certain that your magnetron has failed and/or thermostat which is mounted on it. Fist, unplug the oven from the pwer. Then open the door and remove the stirrer cover in the ceiling of the oven. Look for any dark brown burns, charred spots, or "rusty" looking areas. This would indicate that the waveguide has burned, which means the microwave needs to be disposed of. If it passes that test, I'd say the magnetron and/or thermostat area bad.
