Getting Acer ScanPrimo ST 1220ST to work with Windows 7 and a PCI host adapter with an LSI20329IE Ultra 320 using a VHDCI 68 PIN TO CENTRONICS 50 PIN (CN50) CABLE

This is an older scanner that can also scan negatives and
transparencies up to 8x10 and is an inexpensive alternative to a newer model.
It uses the old Centronic SCSI type connection but can be made to work with Windows 7 and LSI PCI host adapter LSI20329IE Ultra 320 using a VHDCI 68 PIN TO CENTRONICS 50 PIN
(CN50) CABLE. I had trouble getting the new host adapter to see the scanner. I
purchased a new 6 foot cable and it seems to connect more reliably. I have now
purchased a third cable with internal High Byte termination to see if this
cable improves Windows' ability to recognize the scanner further. During my
testing I purchased a third party driver called VueScan to replace the old MiraScan
driver that came with the scanner. The VueScan install seemed to cause both
drivers to work properly under Windows 7 - go figure?

    If you have the
scanner attached through an SCSI card and Windows 7 does not reliably see the
    scanner here is the fix:

Download Devcon.exe from Microsoft, a command line device
    utility.

From the command prompt utility run Devcon.exe with the "rescan"
argument listing the fill path to the command where Devcon.exe is installed on
    your machine.

    For example:

    C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Local\Temp\i386\Devcon rescan

As an alternative the command can be pated as above into a
shortcut on your Windows 7 desktop and initiated at any time causing the system
    to find the scanner.

You can also consider creating a batch command file that
includes the driver to initiate the finding of the scanner and the opening of
the scanning utility in one action.

You can test the function of this fix by looking to see if
the scanner shows up in the device list in the Control Panel's Device manager,
deleting the device and running the Devcon utility to reinstall it.

Acer ScanPrimo ST 1220ST to work with Windows 7 and a PCI host adapter works just fine I use it every day. The key is to use a third party scanner software called Vue Scan 9.0.57 and using the following start-up procedure so Windows 7 can find the scanner on the SCSI controller. First open windows device manager, then turn on scanner, immediately right mouse click in device manager and select scan for new devices. Windows 7 will immediately find the scanner. It seems that windows will only see the scanner through the SCSI interface during the scanners startup sequence. It has been a while but I believe this works with Mira Scan V4.03 as well.

Testimonial: "Update: 12/17/2017 The above also works for Windows 10."

Windows 7 should automatically install device drivers for the Audio, Video and Network, If you are unable to find/download a device driver that works on your computer and your computer is connected to the Internet then - 1. Remove the driver that isn't working if it was installed.
2. Set Win-7 "Windows Device Installation" to 'AUTO'
3. Windows will automatically search the internet for the driver.
4. Reboot your computer.

Hi tried that... sound card is connected and vm-ware tools is also installed... its surely a problem with the windows 2003 server. because the error sound is played through the macbook speakers but not any...

see heres the thing when using VM-Ware, VM-Ware doesnt use drivers for your physical hardware, because it emulates the hardware that is seen in the hardware information of your system preferences.

So installing even drivers for the "emulated" hardware will not work, as VM-Ware uses its own drivers for the hardware, which are included with the VM-Ware Tools, if that doesnt seem to work, you may want to contact VM-Ware support, as they may have a better solutiuon.
