I have a new toshiba laptop that I can't get to connect w/o wires to my lynksys...how do I get my laptop to be wireless??

In order for the wireless computer to connect to the router wirelessly, the router and the computer's wireless settings should be the same. Before trying to connect your wireless adapter to a Linksys wireless router, please know the following: SSID or Network Name, Wireless Security and/or Network Key.

Connecting to Wireless Networks Using XP's Wireless Zero Configuration

To connect to the wireless network using Windows Vista, click here.

Follow these steps to connect to your wireless network using XP's Wireless Zero Configuration.

Step 1: Right-click the Wireless Network Connection icon at the bottom-right of the screen and select View Available Wireless Networks.

NOTE: If Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) is disabled or other wireless network monitor is running, the Wireless Network Connection will not appear at the bottom-right corner. To enable WZC on the computer, contact Microsoft or consult the computer manufacturer.

Step 2:

Select your wireless network

I have a linksys wireless usb card and it is not detecting my secured wireless network after configuring it

We need to know the wireless settings on your wireless access-point/router.

Check if the SSID broadcast is enabled on the wireless access-point. If it is disabled, then you have to manually add the SSID to the wireless adapter and make sure the wireless security such as WEP or WPA keys are correct.

You may also enable SSID broadcast so that the wireless adapter will detect your wireless network.

Also, you may try to change the wireless channel to 6 or 11.

Wireless connection wont work

To check if the wireless card is bad or OK.
Go to Control Panel - Network Connections - Is the wireless network connection listed and if so is there a red X on this connection?
If so, right click on the wireless and click Repair - this may fix your problem, it forces the wireless router to issue the wireless card with a new IP address.
If it doesn't fix the problem then go to Control Panel - System - Hardware tab - Device Manager - scroll down to Network Adapters and expand and check your wireless card, is it Working and Enabled?
If has a yellow ? against it or not working then reinstall the wireless card driver.
If the wireless card is built-in check the BIOS to see if the wireless card is enabled, if not enable the wireless card and repeat the above steps.
If this doesn't fix your problem then the wireless card is faulty and you need a new wireless card. You can get a PCMCIA wireless card to replace the faulty wireless card. If the wireless card is built-in then disable the faulty wireless card in the BIOS before you install the new wireless card.

Belikin adapters and a wireless gateway

If your router is not wireless capable you need to add "wireless access point" on your network so that your wireless computers will be able to connect wirelessly to your network. You can buy WAP54G of Linksys or other brand of WAP(wireless access point).

Helo top experts

i assume that your computer can access the internet while hardwired to the wireless-g router. if so, you just need to connect your wireless computer to the wireless signal of the wireless-g router. you just need to scan or view the available networks detected by your wireless computer and select the wireless name (ssid) of your wireless-g router. make sure to enter the correct wireless security (network key) if it's enabled on your router. i hope this'll help you but if you can't still access the internet wirelessly, provide the specific model number of your wireless-g router, specify if you're using a laptop or a wireless desktop, and the brand and model of your wireless card/adapter
