Technically to connect two computers together all you need is a crossover cable. But if you are planning on connecting to computers onto a network its best to describe more. I would then need to know what kind of Service Provider you have? and whats ur network setup like and so forth.generally for that you would need a router to split an internet connection to two computers. the router would have to be connected to the service provider modem.

Read above links and they should help you out. If you need any more info. Please let me know.

Help me to connect 2 dell computers with cables

The easiest method of connecting any computers is to use a router which will also provide a DHCP server component to serve up local TCPIP addresses to each connected computer.

To connect to the router you would need standard ethernet cables which are available widely and which would plug into the network port of the computer and the other end into the port on the router. You need one cable for each computer to router connection.

If you have computers with WiFi / wireless capability, then you would need a wireless router and could then connect without the need for cables.

Take a look at the Practically Networked web site which has revies of various types of routers and also provides tutorials on networking and other related subjects which would help you.

I want to network an older gateway computer bought in 92 with a newer custom computer using hardware (no wireless) i need step by step instructions

The actual network configuration part is very OS dependent question.
Web search for "xxx (your OS) networking tutorial".

If it's just two computers then you should be able to connect them together with an Ethernet cable.
Assuming that both have a NIC (Network Interface Card).
You could even connect two PC to for copping files using a special serial or USB cable.

But then maybe you want internet connection to them too.
Then what you probably want is a Router with a built in switch, or an external "switch".

I dont know how to connect wireless internet from one computer to another

You will need a wireless adapter for the other computer. You can get an external wireless USB adapter to connect to your wireless network. Simply plug it in and install the software. There will be a tutorial on the procedure which should include how to set encryption to keep nearby wireless networks from spying on you.

If you do not have an unused USB port, you can connect a USB hub to add additional ports or install an internal adapter instead. If your computer has an available slot, purchase a wireless internal network adapter, and then open the packaging and read the instructions. Insert the CD that comes with the adapter in your computer, and follow the manufacturer's instructions to install the necessary software.

You may need to update the driver for your video card. Also on the issue of speed, here is a tutorial on how to use MSCONFIG, a utility that comes with windows to manage your startup programs.
