Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines
This nasty smell is generally soap scum build-up. First thing i would do is to remove the bottom panel and clean the pump filter, (sometimes junk builds up there and stinks) if the inside of the pump is slimy, make sure your drain hose is not installed too deep, pull up the hose and see if it is wet and slimy at the end, if so, it is siphoning dirty water back into the machine after the cycle has ended. If that is the case, correct the drain hose so it is only 5-6" down the pipe, and then run a sanitary (hot) cycle, with nothing but a half gallon of bleach. Don't use that much bleach regularly though, as it can wear on hoses. After the machine is clean, make sure you leave the door open while not in use, use only HE (high efficiency) soap, and use a max of 3-4 Tablespoons. Also, to reduce odor, try sprinkling Oxi-clean powder in the door boot lining occasionally. Hope this helps..
