All my prints come out with a lot more yellow toner on the sides than in the middle of the paper.

Does the yellow tend to show heavy on one side, such as the at the edge of the paper?

Are you using Xerox ink? If not replace the ink and use Xerox ink.

This could also indicate that there is heavy build up within the printer head.

Try running internal cleaning function to see if that reduces or fixes the issue.

Let me know if that helps.

Epson Stylus C86 smearing

Your printer has ink build up inside it. This comes from cleaning cartridges and builds-up steadily over time. Remove top cover. Wet a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (available at drug stores) and clean the inside. use a cotton bud where the swab gets entangled.

Back line on back

Hi there. You aren't alone. I have included a lot of information here, much of which is from an authorized Canon tech.
During excessive printing, ink does not get absorbed into ink pads fast enough causing a build up of ink on the platen roller and the exit rollers.
Canon techs are instructed to replace the ink absorbers with a modified kit that includes a silicon tube, plastic joint, and mylar sheet. The shape of the waste ink pad has been changed to prevent the ink build up.
If you have a mind to do it yourself and your not under warranty you can purchase the blotter kits at and I believe the part number is QY5-0146-000. You can download a user manual at
I'm going to be real honest with you, is a LOT less complicated, time-consuming and expensive to just buy a NEW printer.

I hope this helps. If not, let me know.

My pages are printing correctly on the edges but light in the middle on my clx 3160fn. it has a new black ink cartridge

Is it only with one colour ? I had the same problem (only with black) and before buying another unit dismantled the imaging unit to find a build up of toner on the metering plate edge, I cleaned it and now it's fine.
It takes a bit to get to... 3 fixing screws each side plus one for the belt shute and one at the top. Remove the side plates, followed by the image drum (with great care) then each colour toner roller unit (they just slide forward) until the black unit is exposed. Remove the 5 cover fixings and then you can clean the plate edge. kh

Ink absorber full

For the ink absorber to full in most ink-jet printers it is caused by the buildup of the black ink (it is organic based and will solidify). The colored inks are more of a water consistency and will not build up at all. The only way most ink jet printers can clear the black ink build up is to take a flat head screwdriver and scrape the mountain of ink out of the printer. You do have to move the printer heads & carriage out of the way by turning off the printer, powering it back up and when the carriage is out of the way remove the ac power cord! The inks are water soluable so a wet paper towel will clean up most messes with the ink!!!

Ink keeps leaking from the printer!

The problems you are experiencing are due to ink buildup in the ink absorbers that reside in the base of the printer. I'm surprised that you did not get a "ink absorber almost full" message. Unfortunately this occurs when more ink (heavy printing) goes in to this area than the ink absorbers can absorb and the ink starts to build up. An ink waste tube feeds in to the absorbers right in the front middle of the printer. When the ink begins to build up, it comes up through the paper platen there in the front causing the ink problems on the back of your paper.

The machine will need to be serviced. Canon suggest replacing all of the ink absorbers which is the easiest thing to do from a Tech perspective. The last machine I had in with this problem, I tore down machine and just rinsed all of the absorbers. You also have to rinse the underside of the paper platen.

Media curls on lead and trailing edges

Any of the following:-

Ensure the correct paper weight settings are in use. Excesive heat will cause paper curl.
Feed paper short edge first.
This is normal with high ink coverage on light paper. Use a heavier weight paper.
Your fuser may need replacing.
