Hi,

My name is Ben and I'm your guru, i.e., mentor, an influential teacher or popular expert: a management guru. - origin from Sanskrit, 'weighty, grave', for today.

As you evaluate my advice and suggestions, there are a few things you must keep in mind:

• I did not diagnose your problem and am therefore only able to evaluate what you tell me. For example, if you ask me a fuse location, that doesn't mean that I can tell you the reason why the fuse blew.
• A thorough diagnostic approach involves the use of technical equipment, such as voltage meters. scanning equipment and other sophisticated devices.
• Lastly, fixing one problem can very easily reveal a problem with something that you might consider unrelated. If that happens, just remember that I'm limited by what you have described the problem to be.

Subject: WordPerfect will not install

Customer's exact description: Trying to install WordPerfect Office X5 upgrade (w/ V12 installed), at 36% comes up with, "Error 1290.Service Protexis Licensing V2 (PSI_SVC_2) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." HELP! Idid clear all but 3 file in ..../LOCAL?TEMP as the README file suggested. and clicked remove WP older version

Discussion: I've used WordPerfect since Radio Shack gave up on Script. So let's fix your problem and help put Word out of business.

Even though not mentioned above, I'm assuming that you are running a recent version of Microsoft Windows such as XP, Vista or 7. This will be a three (3) phase solution. It is imperative that each step be followed in order.

First Step: Let's make certain that your operating system is ready to accept your software. Bugs. glitches, and viruses may have disturbed the spooling process. Click on the following link and Microsoft will analyze your system and correct any deficiencies. Microsoft Fixit Site

Second Step:

Make certain that your old version of WordPerfect is up-to-date. I understand that you're upgrading but the installer wants you to uninstall the earlier version from a temp file.

Updates are regularly posted on the manufacturer's site to fix issues you encountered while attempting to use their device. I have no idea what version you are upgrading but I can get you to the update sight and you can insert the pertinent data. Click here for the WP update website

NOTE: For basic troubleshooting tips in how to install your software, please refer to your user manual.

Third Step.

If you downloaded the software upgrade for your older version of WP, have Corel send you a CD, The problem with downloading a complex program is the constant danger dropping packets. Or, in the alternative, if you did download the software, request another download.

Now start your installation. Try an installation in Safe Mode. That will ensure minimum interference for other programs, utilities, etc, If WP won't permit an installation in Safe Mode, make certain that you are not running any other programs and that includes browsers.

If you follow those three steps, you should have a clean installation.

All the best,

Ben

Hi

Thanks for your question at Fixya,

Please find the solution to your problem as follows :-

What you need to do , is log in as an administrator from the administrator account of any other account which has administrator privileges , and not just 'user' privileges.

Once you do that , you will have to run setup again and then you will find that you won't get this error in setup again.

However I would recommend you to delete any files that have been installed already and then start afresh with a new installation.

Hope this helps ...:) In case you have any queries , feel free to contact me.

Hello.

The Protext Licensing is interfering with your install.

I found this online. Although this refers to another Corel software product, the solution should work the same:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/willbu/archive/2009/10/01/corel-paint-shop-pro-photo-x2-fails-to-update-error-1920-service-protexislicensing-failed-to-start.aspx

Hope this helps.

    Hello, again.

    (found online):

The fact that you are not seeing PSIService.exe listed in Task
Manager does not mean the service is not on your computer. Go to Start ' Run and
    type services.msc

This will bring up all the services that are available on the system.
Look for ProtexisLicensing. Right-click on it and select Properties. On the
General tab, the service status will probably say Starting. This is bad. Change
the startup type from Automatic to Manual and click OK. When you reboot, you
    should be able to install.

I cannot open my WordPerfect x3 files ! Why ?

You could try uninstalling WordPerfect, then re-installing it. It's also possible a recent Windows update or a spyware infection is causing the problem.

BUT... I humbly suggest abandoning (uninstalling) WP, and installing free, safe, open-source OpenOffice to replace all other word processors/office suites on the planet. It can convert, read, or save most any document type (even more than Microsoft Word), and in my 20-year experience is much better than anything Microsoft or WordPerfect has ever produced. Did I mention it is free? It is a favorite of computer professionals and students.

Try reinstalling the upgrade over the existing one to see if something didnt copy the thje corel system folder. Also when installing does the upgrade ask you if you want to install fonts. if so go ahead and install them. dont assume the system will automatically do it for you. Also if this fails go into help and see if add on are available to download from corel.

TRYING TO INSTALL WORDPERFECT OFFICE 12 FOR FHOME USE ONLY ON MY LAPTOP. HAVE WINDOWS 7 INSTALLED. WILL NOT COMPLETE INSTALLATION. SAYS ERROR AND CLOSES OUT.

WordPerfect 12 is almost certainly incompatible with Windows 7 -- and is the reason you are getting the error message. The current version of WordPerfect is X4 -- at least 3 upgrade versions from version 12.

The drivers in version 12 were for Windows 98 / 2000. It would have worked OK with XP and maybe even Vista - but Win-7 is a new OS altogether. Sorry, but it sounds like you may need to do an upgrade.
