Question about Sony RDR-HX520 DVD Recorder
Re: Gemstar Guide Plus in a Sony RDR-HXD790 DVD Recorder.
I purchased my DVD Recorder on 28th July 2008 and after I set up the Gemstar Guide Plus I was able to record a program OK. However, now if I record, say three different programs, all three titles will be in the Tile List but the actual recording will be different. In fact all the recordings will be of the same program.
The Troubleshooting section in the manual suggested I turn to page 64/65 and I followed the instructions in ‘Checking programme positions (Editor)’. In the ‘Editor’ settings I found all the ‘Program No.’s were the same, i.e. the one that was recorded instead of the ones I wanted.
I proceeded to change the numbers; firstly, I entered ‘Source’ which showed three settings, D.TV, A TV & Ext.Rec1. I chose D.TV and changed every ‘Program No.’ to match the channel numbers. This worked until I turned the Recorder to Standby/off, because when I switched back on all the ‘Program No’s in ‘Editor’ had changed to one number again. That is why I was recording the same program each time. It appears, when I make these changes, they are not being saved, but I do not know how to rectify this.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanking you in anticipation of your help. Alan.

is the dvr burner hooked up to cable directly or is it coming from a cable box through video cable or again from coaxle cable?

It sounds as though the unit is actually recording a DVD, but is getting no incoming signal to record. What is your recording source? Satellite and receiver? Antenna? Cable box? In the set-up menu, be sure you have chosen the proper input source; i.e., recording from where? You may be able to access that menu through the Function button on the remote, AFter setting that menu, be sure to press Return to restore the recorder to the ready mode. If you are using the RF input for recording, be sure that is selected as well, as opposed to L1 or L2. The input channel must match the output channel on your receiver, usually channel 3 or four. What is the model number?

We sought assistance from someone in the neighbourhood and they were able to assist us with easier instructions than the long winded directions in the manual.
