Question about Refrigerators

Has LG fixed the problem I am reading about online regarding the interior lights remaining on while door is shut resulting in overheating/fire hazard with plastic housing?

Intermittently, the lights in the refrigerator section of my LG French Door fridge (without ice on the door) stay on when the doors are closed. The light housing melted. An LG authorized service person installed a "fix," a bimetallic switch that turns off the light when it gets too hot. However the interior still gets hot and when the switch trips, it's dark in the fridge. Home Depot, where I purchased the box denies knowledge of the problem. Pretty soon I may get upset!

There are service bulletins covering some models regarding this issue. If you post a model number I can see if your refrig is one of them.

Interior roof lights won't go off

This can be caused by a door or trunk being ajar, be sure you shut all doors firmly, if there is still no resolve check by shutting all doors then open one up and press the button (if any) on the inside of the door jam and see if it is broken or the light goes off.

LG issued a service flash about this very problem, so you may be in luck. The last one I did for a customer was paid for by LG.. In a nutshell, LG screwed up. The control board that the lights tie into has a bad relay, which causes the lights to stay on all the time. The fix is to get a new control board and a new light harness. The new harness has a thermal switch that shuts off the lights should they not shut off in the future. I'd try LG customer service and see if they can help you out.

Good Luck!

Lights stay on in fridge

HI. The door switch will be the culprit here.

The interior light in most refrigerators, and the fan in some, are controlled by a door switch. When the door is closed, the switch is depressed and the interior light goes off and the fan resumes normal operation. If the door is misaligned or the switch malfunctions, the refrigerator may become warm as a result of the non-operation of the evaporator fan and the heat generated by the interior light. Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to zero when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals depress the switch, the reading should change back to infinity. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.

LG Refrigerator--Melted Light Fixture

I just had the same thing happen yesterday. The Sears repairman has been and gone, and he has advised me that LG has issued a Service Alert for the problem. They have created a new panel for the fridges with a thermostat that measures the temperature of the lights and shuts them off if they get too hot. In addition, he is going to replace the motherboard of the computer in the fridge. I feel that LG should send notifications to retailers that sell this product and that every purchaser of these fridges made in 2006 should be alerted to this potential problem.

Removing a relay can cause all kinds of problems. The door ajar switch may have just need to be sprayed with a lubricant to unstick it so the lights would go off.reinstall relay to see if concers goes away.

Lights would not go out, overheated and burned out

Yes it is a stuck relay. LG has also come out with a new thermal disk in the light housing as well. This will stop it from melting, but at times you may not have a light on when you open the door. Get the new board and it will solve the problem.
