Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

1 Answer

RE: 108Mbps???? So.. let me get this right... there is not such thing as a factory built (on now days laptops) 108mbs wireless adapter in the market?   Im forced to buy this from netgear in order to get 108mbs?   One more thing... I also have a external hard drive that is wired in to this router... now, when I replaced my old one (a Belkin wireless g) that storage device is not being detected by the router any longer.  It seems to me that I have to unblock the LAN ports or mess with the router's firewall but I'm not quite sure how to go about that...  you input in this is appreciated.  Thanks!

The speed that is being offered by your router will only work with a wireless adapter from Netgear also and almost all laptop now has a built in 54mbs speed, you need to configure the router to allow the external drive, it will be better to call Netgear to configure the router to allow the drive...

Hope that helps...........

Wireless local only

You should try to uninstall and reinstall the driver for your wi-fi adapter on your laptop. Also, you can try to connect to a different wireless network like a hot spot or coffee shop for you to determine if the router is faulty or the built-in wi-fi adapter of your laptop.

Wireless router not detected by laptop

Hi!

First, make sure you know the SSID (name of your wireless network) and Network key (if your wireless router is secured). Also, make sure that the SSID broadcast of your laptop is enabled (this is an option in the router if they will broadcast the signal or not).

I assume that your laptop came with a built in Broadcom adapter. Depending on the brand of your laptop, there is always a wireless switch. You need to look for the wireless switch and turn it ON. For most laptops it's a sliding switch on either the side or front of the laptop. For some it's a combination key - like pressing FN + F2 at the same time.

For XP laptops, you can use the XP wireless utility located on the lower right side of your screen like this :

For some reason the XP utility cannot detect any signal and it's telling you that "Windows cannot configure this.. if you enable another utility, use that software to connect", that only means that there is another software in the computer that is running the wireless connection. You can go to Start > All Programs and look for that utility - you can start by searching a program like broadcom.

For Vista , look for this icon to connect:

I hope that helps.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Can't connect home comp to laptop

how many wireless computers do you have?
is it a dekstop or laptop?
if desktop have you installed a wireless adapter? if laptop, is it using a built-in wireless adapter, have you enabled the wireless adapter or have you installed a wireless adapter?
-------

please make sure first that the wireless adapters are installed properly or enabled on your computers, if everythings OK.

-------

access the setup page of your router and change the wireless settings of it.

how to access the ui
- open the internet explorer
- on the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 hit enter
- enter admin under password, leave it empty for the username and click ok
- click the wireless tab
- set the wireless mode to mix, change the wireless network name or ssid with any preferred name you want to use, make sure to enabled the ssid broadcast and then click save settings.
- after that, under wireless tab, there are sub tabs, click wireless security
- set wireless security to WPA-PERSONAL, and under passphrase, enter your desired password for wireless connection, take note of it and please be reminded that its case sensitive.
- click save settings.
----------------------------
for your wireless computers, if adapters enabled and working fine, on the system tray you should have an icon for the wireless connection, doubles click on it and it will pop for the wireless connection window wherein you can see the name that you set on your router, all you have to do is select the name click on connect and it should ask you enter a password, enter the passphrase you set on the router and click connect. then check if you can go online, if yes do the same thing with other computers.

Have a great day ahead.

In order for you to maximize the 108mbs speed from this router you also need to get a wireless adapter from Netgear that suports 108mbs speed because that is a propietary to each manufacturer like Netgear, Linksys and other wireless networkking manufacturer....

Hope that helps...........

Wireless router dropping then disappeared

There are two possible generic reasons I have found in reviewing internet posts.

One claims there may be a windows issue with hiding the SSID (or router name) and enabling WEP or WPA secure/encrypted wireless connections and random disconnections of service to the wireless adapter. The recommended solution is not to hide the SSID (or router name) and maintain the WEP or WPA secure/encrypted service.

Another claims that there may be an "overload" of requirements on a specific wireless channel in your area (sometimes by non routers such as wireless phones). Many routers default to channel 6. I you have a wireless monitor on a PC that shows routers and their channel assignments nearby -- if everyone is on channel 6 you may want to move to channel 1 or 11 and see if your device works better. There are some wireless routers with capability for 108mbs transmission rates that actually transmit on two channels at once that could be affecting your response so if channel 1 does not work try channel 11 or vice versa.

make sure your router is set at the correct transfer speed eg 54MBPS as your pc may only have a wireless adapter that supports 54MBPS as some run at 108MBPS. You may also need to check that the routers DHCP setting is enabled so as to give your pc an automatic ip address and also check your wireless adapter or card properties and on the TCP/IP line click properties again select obtain ip address automatically.

Netgear WPN824 wireless router

there is no reason why you shouldnt connect at 108 mpbs, so there are only a coulple of things you can try, the first is to change the channel that your router transmits on within the router settings, although this should automatically be done by the router when it comes up against any interference. Secondly try the adapter in a different usb port as USB 2.0 should be used and the port may not be recognised as a high speed port. Double check the router connection transmition speeds is set at 108 mbps; as it would also be able to transmit at a lower speed of 54 mbps so as to be backward compatable with 54 mbps adapters
