Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

1 Answer

RE: 108Mbps???? So.. let me get this right... there is not such thing as a factory built (on now days laptops) 108mbs wireless adapter in the market?   Im forced to buy this from netgear in order to get 108mbs?   One more thing... I also have a external hard drive that is wired in to this router... now, when I replaced my old one (a Belkin wireless g) that storage device is not being detected by the router any longer.  It seems to me that I have to unblock the LAN ports or mess with the router's firewall but I'm not quite sure how to go about that...  you input in this is appreciated.  Thanks!

The speed that is being offered by your router will only work with a wireless adapter from Netgear also and almost all laptop now has a built in 54mbs speed, you need to configure the router to allow the external drive, it will be better to call Netgear to configure the router to allow the drive...

Hope that helps...........

I installed the driver and the utilities program that comes with the driver still thniks that i have no card plugged in

Due to the fact that you have attempted to install the drivers for the wireless adapter, the device manager might be holding multiple copies of the drivers which might be preventing the drivers from being loaded properly. In order to address the problem, please do the following:

Step 1 If the computer has a built-in ethernet adapter, please make sure that you disable it.

Step 2 Boot into safe mode (press F8 during bootup). Once in safe mode, access the device manager (right-click my computer, left-click properties, left-click on the hardware tab, left-click on device manager). Expand the network adapters category and determine if there are multiple copies of the driver. If so, please uninstall them one by one until they are removed completely.

Step 3 Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, and uninstall the D_Link configuration utility.

Step 4 At this point, restart the laptop and eject the wireless card. If you have a PCI adapter, do not reboot or remove the adapter.

Step 5 Make sure that there are no background utilities running such as antivirus, crash guard, or firewall. If so, please disable them.

Step 6 Run the installation CD in order to install the drivers for the wireless adapter.

Step 7 If you have a laptop, shutdown the computer and install the adapter. Turn on computer and Windows should install the drivers.

If you have a PCI adapter, reboot the computer and Windows should install the drivers.

My d-link WUA-2340 is only running on 54mbps

What router are you using?
Most routers sold until recently have been 802.11b/g (54mbps) routers, it must be 802.11b/g/n to run at 108mbps.
The adapter will self adjust to the older standard if it cannot detect if the faster standard is available.

108mbps?????

In order for you to maximize the 108mbs speed from this router you also need to get a wireless adapter from Netgear that suports 108mbs speed because that is a propietary to each manufacturer like Netgear, Linksys and other wireless networkking manufacturer....

Hope that helps...........

you may struggle if youve got win 95 on it, and only if you got usb ports,go for a wireless usb adapter if you can find one, as sometimes the pcmcia driver can be a bit fiddly and cause problems with pcmcia wireless cards. Although there are win 95 expansion cards available most are only 11MBPS transfer speeds as apposed to the 54MBPS and 108MBPS cards now available for other operating systems

the rangemax may be 108mbps transfer speed, but are your wireless network adapters able to run at 108mbps?, as most earlier ones will only run at 54 mpbs, especially notebook wireless adapters. You will only gain on 108mbps transfer speed when file transfering or streaming to each pc, it will not speed up your internet connection, although you probably already are aware of that.

Just not connecting

It may be set at 108mbps and your ps2 will probably only able to cope with 54mbps, so set the adapter to 54mbps to match the ps2.
