There is a switch actuator on these cover try to see if you can find any piece of tab that actuate these switches, unless the cover is really closed ensure that it is fully flat

Message says COVER OPEN CLOSE COVER but the cover is closed


The problem could be due to the printer cover sensor getting stuck or the cartridges in the carrier. Please follow steps below to identify and fix the problem:

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Make sure there are no foreign objects or debris in the feeder.

2. Open the printer cover and remove both the cartridges.

3. While the cover is open, ensure there are no paper jams and the cartridge carrier is free from obstructions.

4. Close the printer cover.

5. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it.

6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.

7. Close the printer cover and check for errors.

8. If no error appearsl, open the printer cover and reinsert the other cartridge. Check for errors.

9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge. You can also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

10. Load some paper. Try to print again.

My lexmark printer x 3470 will not operate....it says the cover is open but it does not appear to be and none of the controls will function.... help please??????


It could be due to the cartridges in the carrier or the sensor for the cover has become stuck. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges from the printer. Close the printer cover. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, re-insert the cartridges and close the cover. Check for any errors.

raise the cover and see if u can see a switch of some kind puss it down and see if it will print or restart ur computer and see what happens

Please help me find the spot to re place the ink cartige to an x 3470 printer


Perhaps the Lexmark X3400 Series User's Guide will give you a better picture. You can download it using this link: http://bit.ly/cSUqq8. Scroll to page 52 for the instructions on how to change the print cartridge.
Sometimes the ink cartridge carrier won't position automatically to the middle even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Just unplug the printer from the power source. With the cover open, hold the solid white strip and gently slide the carrier to the middle of the printer. Load the cartridges. Close the cover. Plug the printer back to power source. 1.Power off the All-In-One (AIO) and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds. Then reinsert the power supply and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?

Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved.

Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the scanner cover. Check the scanner glass for cracks and the scanner casing for cracks. Close the scanner lid. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Remove both cartridges, close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?

Yes: Continue to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Continue to step 3.

Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Insert the color cartridge, close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power on the AIO.

No: Repeat step 3 and install the black/photo cartridge. If both cartridges are installed, attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved.

X3470 printer says cover open and no buttons will work after I changed the ink cartridge and closed the cover it says cover open. the only way it will shut off is to unplug it.then it says 3470 then goes...


It is a common fail in this model there is a plastic arm which works as an extender for the switch that senses that the cover is open this part is easily detached from its place(in my case not broken but it could happen I suppose) resulting in printer showing that message. the switch is situated under the the scanner in the middle . when you lift the scanner part to see the ink cartridge, you see a plastic part underneath that looks like a 2/3 of a circle that is the part that pushes the switch. 
You should open the printers gut and place the loose part back in place. Be ware that flat cables contact ends could easily brake use caution. (if you shake your printer you may hear the sound of the lose part).

The scanner cover is closed, however I get an error message saying it's open. The unit will not print, copy or scan


I just changed the cartridges, however I get an error message saying " Cover open / close cover / change cartridge " error . The unit will not print, copy or scan. Any suggestions? Thanks
