So.. let me get this right... there is not such thing as a factory built (on now days laptops) 108mbs wireless adapter in the market?

Im forced to buy this from netgear in order to get 108mbs?

One more thing... I also have a external hard drive that is wired in to this router... now, when I replaced my old one (a Belkin wireless g) that storage device is not being detected by the router any longer.

It seems to me that I have to unblock the LAN ports or mess with the router's firewall but I'm not quite sure how to go about that...

you input in this is appreciated.

    Thanks!

In order for you to maximize the 108mbs speed from this router you also need to get a wireless adapter from Netgear that suports 108mbs speed because that is a propietary to each manufacturer like Netgear, Linksys and other wireless networkking manufacturer....

Hope that helps...........

The speed that is being offered by your router will only work with a wireless adapter from Netgear also and almost all laptop now has a built in 54mbs speed, you need to configure the router to allow the external drive, it will be better to call Netgear to configure the router to allow the drive...

Don't forget to rate the solution FIXYA thank you....
    Hope that helps...........

Hi,

It's true that using router and adapter of the same brand will give you maximum performance. And YES, you can confuse both router and adapter. No matter whats brand, you can boost your adapter performance by changing its link speed or duplex to 100M/Full Duplex. This will gives you maximum performance then Auto Function of the Duplex.
Logically its NOT True but Practically I have done it many time.

Belkin g+wireless mimo router

make sure your router is set at the correct transfer speed eg 54MBPS as your pc may only have a wireless adapter that supports 54MBPS as some run at 108MBPS. You may also need to check that the routers DHCP setting is enabled so as to give your pc an automatic ip address and also check your wireless adapter or card properties and on the TCP/IP line click properties again select obtain ip address automatically.

NetGear Super G 108Mbps Wireless Firewall

If you are connecting wirelessly, then it's more than likely that your wireless card or usb dongle cannot connect as you router is probably set at 108 mbps. Your receivers are more than likely only capable of connecting at 54 mbps so change the streaming rate on your router to 54 mbps. This will not alter your internet connection speed as the 108 mbps only refers to the rate of streaming speed on your local area connection (from one pc to another)
