has anyone else found that the S2 IS corrupts it's cards. Under "normal" use.
My Dad (in-law) is now on his second card and that has corrupted !
We have tried formatting in the Camera before use and haven't pulled the card out whilst the camera is switched on, but this is a second card and it starting to get very frustrating.
Pls Help !
What brand cards are you using. I've had a Sandisc 2 ultra II in mine nor for about a year and never had a problem. before that had a 1gb Kingston and again no problems. after every download I always format the card to start it freash so i'm always using that same part of the card.
If you don't format often i'd do so. You don't need to do a low level every time, i do mine about every 10th downlaod

It might just be a file type not recognized by the camera. It could mean that the media card has become corrupted. Try formatting the card. You will lose all images on the card. If it is a SD card or similar try reading it on a computer to see if you can retrieve your pictures first, then format. If it is the camera's internal memory storage formatting that might restore workability. If the error applies to all files the second solution ( corrupt memory card ) is most likely.
SD is the memory card where all your photos are saved. It is found in here (ignore the bent-card shape in the photo it is SD Ultra - a normal flat SD is what most people use). http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/camera/review/53/page_5.html Make sure to press the card in the proper orientation and do not force it in, then close the flap.
The S2 IS uses SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. While you can use SDHC cards with the SD750, you will have to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller, with the S2 IS.
Is it a new 4GB memory card? If so that might be your problem. The card would likely be an SDHC card, and your camera was designed well before the SDHC format came out. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less).
But if the card is less than 2GB, it could have become corrupted. In this case you could try formatting the card in the camera to see if this would rejuvenate it. This will also erase the card. See this post if you wish to first recover those pictures.
Finally, if this is occurring with multiple cards, and is also saying "card locked" even though the tiny slide switch is in the unlocked position, then see this post for a possible remedy.
This normally happens when the memory card gets corrupt. Hope you have pressed OK after selecting YES. Check whether the card is locked. SD card has a small Lock button on the top left. If this fails, buy a new SD card and format it in the camera before taking any image.
This could be a failing SD card causing corruption of the stored files (the SD card isn't an ebay special is it? there have been some very bad quality cards coming from China recently). Recommend first trying another brand of SD card.
After you've tried another card and it's still doing this, then the symptoms could also be impending CCD image sensor failure. Unfortunately you cannot fix this yourself. But as the A2000 is a relatively new camera, it's likely that you've owned it less than one year and it's still under warranty.
If in US or Canada, call 1-800-OK-CANON to arrange for warranty repair.
After you've donloaded your pictures, have you tried formatting your card in the camera? Press the Menu button, then go to the settings (tools) menu. Go down to the Format option. Select "Low Level" format if available in your menu. Again make sure that you have downloaded your pictures first as this will also erase your card.
If the above doesn't work, have you tried using an SD card reader? If so, the next thing to try would be a different card reader. And finally, have you done a recent sweep for spyware on your computer. Spyware can cause temporary hangup/hiccups that could potentially corrupt your download.
It could be a faulty memory card. Or maybe dirty contacts on the card itself. Try swapping cards with a friend or your local camera shop and see if it works then. Maked sure the card is correctly inserted too.
If the card formatted in the camera it should be OK. If it was corrupt it would show up during format.
I hope you didn't buy the card off Ebay through an Asian or Chinese dealer. They are conning people with half a gbyte card marked as one gbyte. Some of them are reworked so they show the full Gbyte but when you go to format them they crash when you try to use them.
Anyway it should be under warranty so ask for an exchange or even a different brand.
Did you try to copy the files to your computer first then open them?
While the SD is in the reader, you should run a chkdsk on the SD drive to make sure there are no lost clusters etc. maybe the file table is corrupted...
