Linksys WPC54GS adapter card not connecting with wireless router

By amy4468 on Sep 17, 2008

" "
I have two laptops one that requires a adapter card and one that does not. I was able to setup my newer laptop (does not need card) quickly and easily to connect through the router. My older laptop with the card is not working as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (via cd) and checked everything I can think of. I get a message that says "you are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found" . help!

Clarification Request

Hello amy4468,

This is one of those problems that has haunted me in the past, and I have yet to be able to find a consistent solution for it. There are a couple of pieces of info that you could present that would help, though.

1. What is the model of your Older Laptop? I would guess that it's running XP, right?
2. There is a version number on these types of Wireless cards; you should be able to find it on the back of the card, can you post that for me?
3. Are you using the Linksys Software to try and connect?

for one you could try and manually connect to the network by clicking site survey then choose your network on the list then connect. make sure to adjust the channel of your router to 11.

another option is to right click the green icon on the lower right corner of the screen down by the time/clock. the linksys icon green icon that has waves on it, right click then choose use windows wireless zero configuration. then confirm it by presing yes.

an icon that look like 2 small computers will apear at the system tray just right that then view available wireles network then connect to your network.
