Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a Logitech QuickCam® Pro 5000 installed on a Dell D620 laptop running Windows XP. When I attempt to record something, the camera freezes, but the sound keeps recording. I use MovieMaker to capture my videos and it has worked fine in the past. Now it freezes after about a minute of recording. Can you help me with this issue? Thanks, Johnathan

At this point you got several things you need to check

Here's a quick run down of some trouble shooting proceedures for this.

1. Download and install ALL the critical updates and service packs for your operating system

I bet I type that 20 times a day and I can't stress that enough !

2. download and install any driver updates for your video card

3. Make sure your computer is not getting too hot , I can't stress that enough either !

Do these things and you will illiminate them as being possible culprits ...

Thank you for using FixYa!

Hi elizabeth,

It seems that you are selecting the quick format option when installing Windows XP.
Try running the XP setup again and choose the option to format the hard drive with the NTFS option, but use the standard option & NOT the "quick" option.
Let me know if this solves the problem.

Best wishes,
Graeme

Wont load win xp on gx 260

Hi,
There are a number of reasons why XP won't install or hangs halfway through the install process.
The main culprits are bad sectors on the hard drive. Poorly seated or faulty system memory and of course scratched CD or a dirty optical lens.

You are going to have to go through this troubleshooting process to determine what the problem is and what you have to do to resolve the problem.

Start by cleaning the install disk and the optical lens, remove and clean the system memory and the slots, check the cables and then try to reinstall.

If you run into the same problem i would be suspecting the hard drive.
As far as i know Dell have their own utility.

Turn on the computer. When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12> immediately. If you wait too long and the Microsoft® Windows® logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again.

When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostics and press <Enter>.
If you don't have the Dell Diagnostics Utility on the computer then something like Hiren's boot CD will be able to check the drive for errors in the hard disk tools section.

Regards.

Attempted to install New 320G hard drive in a Dell Dimension 3000, but the BIOs refused to see the drive at all. Despite double checking jumper settings and using other cables. The OS is Windows XP SP2,...

Check to see which bios version your computer is using. An update is probably necessary in order for the computer to detect the drive correctly.

If that doesn't work most hard drive manufacturers have software that you can install so that the bios will detect the drive correctly.

What's the make and model of the new drive?

Download the six winxp install floppies,,from bootdisk.com and install that way.
Your PC was not meant for XP it was meant for Millenium at most.
But if you load through floppies and then use the cd you should be OK
