Depending on the point where you are locked out, you'll need to reset the password for your system. There are a couple ways to do this.

  1. If it's asking you for a BIOS password, which is a password prompt that appears before you see the windows booting screen like in this image:
LOCK OUT OF MY LAPTOP - 32781d8.png
then you'll need to open the laptop and remove the small BIOS battery inside the machine. After letting it sit for a couple of hours, plug the battery back in and it will clear the BIOS password. This won't be easy unless you're quite mechanically inclined.
  2. If you've simply lost your Windows password (A password box that appears after you see the windows booting screen, and once windows loads), then you'll need to try one of two things.
  • At the login screen, which should look like this image:
    7e1688b.png
press the key combination "ctrl-alt-del" twice. It should take you to a prompt where you can input a specific username and password like in this figure:
    88565b2.gif
Type the username of "Administrator", and leave the password field blank. Click ok. If you can login, then go to the Control Panel, then User Accounts. From here, you can reset your password for your account. If this didn't work, try the next step.
  • Alternatively, you can purchase and use a program that will forcibly reset any windows password at http://www.password-reset.com/biosinfo.php. You will need to boot from the CD it will have you create, and follow the instructions to reset the password for you.
  • There are a number of free programs similar to the password-reset I just showed you, however they tend to be difficult to use, and do not have good documentation. The easiest solution is to pay the $50 bucks for that program.
If you absolutely don't want to buy that software, command back here and i'll try and give you a more detailed, free solution. Comment back on your progress, and i'll see if I can help you any firther than this.

If you are running windows nt, 2000 or xp pro, you might be able to download a linux boot floppy image from a friend's pc, then you can use that to reset the administrator password.

If you've locked yourself out of the bios, you might need to contact the manufacturer, with proof of purchase, to have it reset.

I opened my samsung v20 laptop and now my mouse pad dont work. There is a cable loose but i dont no where it goes.

hello.. You have to put the ribbon cable back on to the mouse pad. there will be a socket under the deck lid where you need to reconnect the ribbon cable. there might be 2 little tabs on each side of the socket if there is, pull the tabs away from the socket carefully, slide the cable in the slot, and then slide the tabs back. that will lock the ribbon cable in. be careful. those sockets can get damaged easily. good luck !

You know how every button has a second funtion...well, i canèt figure out how to get the first function back (question mark..ect..) it keeps typing És...itès frustrating..it happens often,...

If this is a laptop keyboard, there is usually a "function lock" key or a numlock key. Press the "Fn" key and look for one that says "Num Lock" or an icon on one of the keys that looks like the number keypad from a full size keyboard. Or find a key that says "Fn Lock" or something of the sorts.

Hope this helps!

My laptop

If you have an operating system installer use it and format your laptop first. Then proceed in installing the new os.Download the specific drivers needed for your laptop.Remember that before you reinstall you must first know what these specific drivers are..You can see it from the device manager. Click my computer--->left click----->properties-------->hardware tab---->device manager. Or simply type the model of your laptop and search for its drivers from the net. Another best option is buy a recovery cd from toshiba.
