Question about Acer Aspire 5100-3357 Notebook
Hard drive crashed in 5100 - making clanking noise... Want to replace with new HD. Was running Windows Vista 64. How easy would it be buy new HD and reformat from scratch? Thanks.
Pretty simple. You'll just need to determine whether the system uses SATA or IDE for the hard drive interface. Many machines manufactured in the past couple of years use SATA, but any 2.5" drive will be compatible providing you have the correct interface. ATA drives for laptops are generally called PATA and if it's such an interface any ATA-6 drive will be compatible.
You might need a SATA driver for the Vista installation, so bear that in mind. You'd specify additional drivers during the setup process.
