Hi, i was given a beautiful classic singer 675U1/3 and it was working but stitching at the bottom needed to be fixed. I tried all the settings and eventually decided to clean and oil the machine as per the booklets' instructions. Gave it a couple of days but today only the handwheel turns, not the needle/bobbin. Any advice? I recon i might as well buy a new one as servicing costs might be expensive. Many thanks, Jay

I know this was an old post but would you possibly still have the Manual for that machine? I have acquired one from my late nan and would very much love a copy of the manual as its near impossible to find anymore.

Have you got the flywheel clutch fully engaged on it? I think this is the flywheel inner and outer on the Singers but if you've got the manual it should describe how.

If you want some help to get it going I'd suggest you join a Yahoo group of Singer enthusiasts and ask for a bit of help there, they love their old machines and some members are very knowledgable and happy to share. There is several groups "Singers" "Vintagesingers" or "Wefixit" so you might want to join a couple and lurk around the message boards, there is lots of really helpful info in files and photos too.

It may be that you've got oil onto the drive belt or something really simple - I'm not a Singer expert though and don't know their models real well but there are lots of classic Singer enthusiasts out there on these groups.

Singer Sewmate, the zig zag stitch is perfect on the bottom of the fabric, but lopsided on the top, how do I fix this?

This could be a combination of two things, to much down pressure on the spring loaded foot on top or the fabric distorting it, the other is a top stich tension issue adjust tension in and out to see if this improves the stich.
good luck

The zig zag stitch is on the bottom of the fabric instead of the top how do I fix this for a Singer sewing machine model 7015

singer has a manual but you have to order it,, try adjusting the upper tension. and if that doesn't work then then bottom tension needs to be check, ,but don't touch the bottom tension unless it's really nessary

My singer model 237 makes a stitch that doesn't look right. The bottom thread is just goes through the top thread loops under the material

Hi, if stitches are off, there is a problem with balance between the upper and lower stitch adjustments. You have to tweak these. Also, make sure there is no lint in the bobbin case area or under the feeddogs. Here is an excellent blog for 237 Fashion Mate owners. You are lucky to have one of these from the 1960's. http://blog.sew-classic.com/2010/02/02/singer-237-fashion-mate-sewing-machine-reveiw.aspx

How do I use the button hole foot on the Bernina 807 minimatic?

There isn't an automatic button hole on this machine. You can do it manually. Thread the bobbin thread as usual, but put it through the little hole on the hook in the bobbin case. Set the stitch length between 0 and 1, like a nice satin stich. Set the needle position to the far left and the stitch width to 2. Sew down the left side. Center the needle, set the width to 4 and lower the feed dogs, stitch about 6 stitches across the bottom. Then reverse the direction, set the needle to the right, stitch width to 2 and go back up the right side. Lower the feed dogs again, set a wide stitch and finish the top.

Another good option is to buy a universal presser foot shank from Bernina and then attach an old cam type buttonhole attachment from Singer. They make beautiful buttonholes and you can even do a keyhole button hole.

Singer 301A stitch jam

your machine threads from right to left. the needle flat spot faces left. big loopy things means that the upper part of the machine is not threaded properly. as far as the needle hitting the bobbin case, it sounds as if someone removed the hook (part that holds the case) and put it back on 180 degrees off.

CONSEW 206RB5 TOP THREAD NOT FORMING STITCHES AND BREAKING

you have your thread tension too tight that's why it is pulling the bottom stitch all the way through it looks good from the bottom but not good on top. Its pulled the stitch all the way through the material.
I had my own upholstery shop 18 yrs and tension gets you every time.Just loosen the top tension.

Topand bottom stitches are not even

Could be a tension issue.

Try this to see if it helps:
Remove top thread.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Start the top tension set at the midway point and then adjust.
Check that the bobbin is threaded and installed correctly.
