No money to fix, no job so all that is left is to sell my 1000 zoom lens for the rebel and pay cannon to fix it.

If the mirror came out I'd say you need to get this professionally fixed (If it can be fixed at all as I've never heard of this happening) as you could easily damage the sensor.

Your camera needs professional repair...do not attempt to glue the mirror unless you don't mind having a very expensive paper weight.

I was given a sigma mirror-telephoto lens (600mm) It says right on it that it is for a Cannon. I have Cannon Rebel xt and cant figure out how to attach it. Does it work with a Rebel? And if so how? Do I...

You need a T-mount ($30) for a Canon on E-bay or a big camera store. There is NO connections to the camera body, so you have to turn off auto focus and go to "Auto" mode (the shutter speed will change) as the lens is fixed at F8. The mirrors give very little depth of field, 4 or 5 feet when far away but everything in back is a blur of circles. At F8 the shutter speed can go slow and at 600mm you may need a tripod.

Canon 300 EOS images not complete

There is a plastic pin pivot inside the box mirror (right side of it if you see the front of the camera), which allows the sub-mirror to move in one direcction, basically, during the capture process of the image by the CMOS sensor.

The dark or black areas mean that such plastic pivot is either broken or missing (pushed in).

The plastic pin pivot is really very cheap ($3.00), but the problem is that in order to replace it and fix the camera, it is necessary to almost disassemby the camera and box mirror, which maycost between $120.00 - $200.00, depending where you will send your camera for such procedure.

In internet you can Google for some guidelines in how you can repair it yourself, using a standard metal paper clip (forming it with pliers and glueing it to the mirror box) if you think that you can do it yourself.

If your camera has ay kind of warranty, you can return it to make it valid.

Also, if you search in internet, you will find some persons that claim that their cameras out of warranty were fixed FREE of charge (only the paid the shipping) after talk with Canon about the problem.

Bottom line, this repair is time consuming, and needs some degree of skills and experience to open and disassembly the camera, and repair it.

You need to evaluate if you want to spend money on it, or do it yourself.

Best regards,

New Camera, no picture on screen

This is normal for this camera. Think about it. The CMOS chip can't see through the mirror. After the shot is taken the electronic shutter exposes the CMOS chip and makes an image just like exposing film on a film type camera. Once you get used to it you may like it better. In outdoor or bright light situations it's difficult to view the LCD screen to frame the shot anyway.

Canon EOS 300D Loose primary mirror

Absolutely. Glue away. These mirrors of course in no way effect image quality, but you still want to be careful with the glue, and make sure the mirror stays aligned so it's free to flip up.
Hope this helps

Lcd monitor

On a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) like your Rebel, the shutter remains closed until you actually take a picture. The camera cannot display an image on the LCD since there is no way to preview one that has not been captured.

This is pretty common with the 300D.  There is a pin on which the secondary (AF) mirror pivots.  It looks like Canon didn't used the right, or enough glue to hold the pin to the mirror box assembly.  There are a couple of sites that show sort of how to repair it.  I'm working on fixing mine right now, but have some other issues.  To do this properly yourself, you will need jewlers screwdrivers, a good soldering iron, tweezers, and some glue (I used super glue).

I chose to do the repair because I've got a degree in electrical engineering, experience with micro-electronics, and have more time than money.  I did manage to break the flex circuit that goes to the flash board, which is the source of my woes now.
