Very Carefully! ... jk lol

1. You'll want to begin by removing the top plate cover of YOUR laptop/notebook illustration below.

my screen has cracked and - 8614b71.jpg
2. keep trac of every screw or **** or metal item you remove

3. You'll next want to detach the display ribbon cable , this is just an example

4. finaly you'll want to remove any OTHER ribbon cables , exampe below.

5. now for the tricky parts , you'll need to make sure you DO NOT PRY anything open
keep searching for hidden screws that may be located underneith plastic covers
that parts very tricky because sometimes they disguise them very well

6. once you find the screws to remove the face plate , illustrated below you'll be able to install your
new display screen without any farther assistance.

you do not need to remove the metal rods that hold the display in place , you just want to remove the face plate like this example my screen has cracked and - d298892.jpg>

How to replace cracked screen Sony VAIO Tap 21 and where can I order just the screen?

It is certainly possible. procure most screens or compatible ones as spare parts. To obtain instructions for fitting them especially a specific one which is manufactured by Sony a company which seems to specialize in doing things its own esoteric way, may be more difficult. You can probably buy just a screen from sony at an extortionate pric. I assume there is nothing helpful in the Sony literature, user guides etc. which are available (I can't find the exat model, but go here to start off,26,2,1,77,72,24,54,5 )

For a screen a quick search on ebay gave a couple ~US$200 and upwards
There may be other suppliers, more may be available later - some might be able to give help on fitting)

Can't find anything on instructions specifically for fitting a new screen though (eg youtube video)

Where should i go to get my screen fixed? i dropped my laptop and now the bottom right corner is cracked and black.

Unless you purchased an "all-perils" warranty when you purchased your laptop, you'll have to pay a qualified technicican to disassemble your laptop, remove the LCD screen, order a replacement screen, install it, reassemble your laptop, and test that it works.

Say $200 for a new screen, and $75 for "labour".

The plastic case that makes up the outer shell of my laptop computer is badly cracked and the flip up screen is in danger of falling off. Is there any way to replace it without replacing the components.The...

You can replace the shell if you are comfortable with unscrewing all of the screws from the old one. I would draw the screw layout on a piece of paper first and for each one you unscrew, place it on the paper in the position it came from. That will help you when you put them all back.

If you need a replacement shell and do not have a local source, I would suggest PC Recyclers of Idaho []. I've purchased parts from them and they've always given me great prices.

This will require a new LCD replacement. I was quoted on this when I damage my old Toshiba. It costs about $300 to have it replaced. You can get a new screen from eBay for about $200, but you need to verify its compatibility and make sure you read all the tutorials online before proceeding.

Cracked screen

Cracked screen is considered physical damage so it will not be covered under the regular warranty repair except if you do have the warranty for accidental damage. If repair cost is close to the purchase price, better have a new unit. Hope this helps. Thank you.

This is what one calls a potential 'can of worms.'
It could require a great deal of connector swapping and it isn't likely that Acer will allow you to access the necessary circuit diagrams to even make this possible.
It is highly unlikely that you can simply procure and install any kind of 'adaptor' and without knowing having the circuit diagrams, you are facing a near impossible task.
The backlight of an LCD screen uses high frequency, high voltage to supply the fluorescent tube(s) that provide light.
Incorrectly connecting lines could result in damage to both you laptop and/or the circuits contained in the LCD body.

DVI cable not working

If you still have your old monitor plug it back in for a bit and load the drivers for the new monitor (from the disk which came with the new monitor). Right click on your desktop and choose properties and set your display resolution to something like 1024 x 768. Shut down the pc and connect your new monitor to it with the dvi adapter. If it is recognised ok you can then set the resolution from 1024 x 768 to the recommended amount for your new screen. The refresh rate is also important as some lcd screens only work at a certain level. There should be an auto switch on the monitor and if you press this it sets the display to optimum, - or should do.
